The large city close to me is famous for copious amounts of bullshit and hot air produced by 535 bloviating leeches and for figuring out ways to screw with everyone else in the country.

The town I live in is famous for 2 Civil War battles.

The current city in which I reside? Not a damned thing. I didn't realize it until I searched Wikipedia but a former director of NIOSH lived here for a while (may still live here)...probably our most famous resident ever (obviously not saying much).
