So what if my head is in the sand?

I admit, I never watch the news. I never read the newspaper. I never check the weather report. I sometimes pay attention to technology news, and that is really about it.

So far, I haven't really run into any problems following this approach. Skipping out on the weather reports hasn't ever done me any harm because I always wake up early, or leave early for appointments/events. Am I doing myself harm by not knowing everything else going on in the world? With the way the world is connected, you usually hear about anything really important from somebody else within 1 hour of it happening anyway.

Anybody else live this way?

Opinions from both ends of the spectrum please.

nothing wrong with it, i am very similar,

however i do check teh weather (mostly on my phone) simply to see if ill have to deal with snow on teh morning drive or not

Worst case scenario... you find yourself in a zombie outbreak without any stockpiles of food, guns, or ammo.

The problem is that if everybody lived that way, then nobody would care if you were fvcked over by the system. Also if you want to make choices based on information and not your gut feeling then you need to get that information, and to me that is one of the cornerstones in modern democracy.

It's nice that most of us live in a society were most things works fine for the most of the population, but in a democracy we all have an obligation to keep our society that way. If we don't then our society might change in a way that we wouldn't like. (take SOPA as an example)

my brother is just like that. doesn't pay any attention to what's going on in the world. the other day he says to me: "wow, did you know the economy is really messed up now?". :\

ffffffuuuuu

Just curious, do you regularly vote in elections?

 exercise your right not to vote.

pssssst, it's all rigged anyway. shhhhh

It's sad when someone's carefully researched and thoroughly educated vote weighs the same as my grandfather's because my aunt told him to vote for candidate A.

Voting is such a hack. And what brings votes- money and whoever managed the campaign the best.

This is why I do not vote.

You wouldn't mind signing this power of attorney so I can manage the rest of your affairs, would you? I mean you'll be able to frolic about even more unencumbered by the world around you. You can trust me.

So not following the news makes me an idiot? How about I take those papers and shove them up your arse instead of signing them? So much for whatever point you were trying to make.

If you are fine with other people making decisions for you then you are fine.

How does this have anything to do with me not watching the news? If you're talking about not voting, I'm pretty sure those same people are make your decisions too. So much for whatever point you were trying to make.

Next? <fly-swatter at the ready>

That's not what makes you an idiot. But it's a pretty good piece of evidence of the fact

Obvious elitist prick is obvious. Go troll somewhere else. If you're not bothering to explain why it's your opinion that it makes me an idiot, then you're just trollin'. Or you're just an idiot yourself, and can't figure out how to back up your opinion.

What are you, Alkemyst now? :colbert:

What are you, Alkemyst now? :colbert:

I am just trying to defend my position. To be Alkemyst, I have to throw some expensive item I own into the mix randomly, or try to point out why I'm better than you. (none of which I've done)

Fly swatted 🙂
