I am just trying to defend my position. To be Alkemyst, I have to throw some expensive item I own into the mix randomly, or try to point out why I'm better than you. (none of which I've done)

Fly swatted :)
Come on now, you post an opinion about something that you know people get heated about one way or the other, you have to expect this going in. FWIW, people have a right to be upset that people don't vote and people also have the right to be so upset with the system that they refuse to vote.

Obvious elitist prick is obvious. Go troll somewhere else. If you're not bothering to explain why it's your opinion that it makes me an idiot, then you're just trollin'. Or you're just an idiot yourself, and can't figure out how to back up your opinion.

If you don't care about what's going on in the world, you are ignorant and have your priorities out of wack. Chances are, you are likely not very intelligent. I'm just stating the obvious

Just because I do not get my news from media outlets doesn't mean I do not get the news. I always hear about the most important things going on at some point. I'm not oblivious, and in this day and age, who could be? Perhaps you should have read my OP a little more carefully before you came in here to roast the 'village idiot'.

I get my news almost exclusively from NPR, the major media outlets are flipping horrible, and I take what I hear on NPR with a large grain of salt.

Nothing wrong in that at all. 'News' is a bit of a misnomer anyway. It's the same shit that's happened repeatedly over the last century, simply regurgitated and with added flavour.

You're not missing anything interesting.

On average, think about the types of people who seek out news vs. the people who don't and only hear the big news items second hand.

Which group is more intelligent on average?

Or look at intelligent people. Do you think they are more or less likely to be knowledgeable about what's going on in the world(more than just overhearing news items from other people)?

Why even look at it that way? Just because a person isn't filling their head with world news doesn't mean they aren't filling their head with other intellectual pursuits. I wouldn't be able (or want) to have a stimulating conversation with you about the price of tea in China. However, if you want to discuss anything in relation to current technology and it's possible impact on our society, then I could probably keep you pretty engaged.

I never said anything to the contrary. I'm speaking about probability. I don't care that you don't care. But I know that if I didn't seek out news, I wouldn't hear about much. It says something about you, whether you like it or not. But I said it before, just because you don't care and don't follow it doesn't make you stupid.

Holy mother of the flying spaghetti monster, look at what you're typing. The only person you're saying something about there is yourself. The irony of you questioning my intelligence is becoming more and more clear with every post you make.

It's sad when someone's carefully researched and thoroughly educated vote weighs the same as my grandfather's because my aunt told him to vote for candidate A.

Voting is such a hack. And what brings votes- money and whoever managed the campaign the best.

This is why I do not vote.

When enough people don't vote, democracy fails to function.

Rigged or not, fair or not, I'd rather use what minor political power I have to produce the best possible outcome.

Ok, you can't comprehend what I'm saying, or you choose to ignore it in your defense. Adios

I admit, I never watch the news. I never read the newspaper. I never check the weather report. I sometimes pay attention to technology news, and that is really about it.

You introduced your evidence, and your communication skills have proven the point. ;)

Doesn't matter to me as long as you aren't voting for someone without knowing anything about them or the issues of the world.
