So my roomate and I have been discussing what type of exciting pet we could get to keep us entertained.

We have a hampster right now, but he doesn't do much, so we want something that will be really exciting.

Does anyone have any experience with sugar gliders? They look too good to be true
 
I want a gecko. They eat crickets and spiders FTW. But don't expect to see it much.

EDIT: those sugar gliders are kinda cute.

I dont think a sugarglider would be any more fun than a hamster. Sugargliders look like glorified mice.

If you want something fun and intteractive, you've got to get something bigger. How about a ferret? Small dog?

You don't sound like an animal lover, so don't get a mammal. How about a tarantula? You can watch it hunt, feed your hamster to it, impress girlz and shiit yo!

Well, my roomate would take care of it most of the time. He plays with his hampster all day, I kinda just watch.

He said that if he did get a sugarglider, he would probably get 2 so they could be the best of friends.
 
I just googled sugar glider...

WTF that's a possum! We used to shoot the nasty little things in New Zealand, they're pests.

This is almost too easy.

 
My old roommate had one (before we were roommates) and that thing was crazy, it'd constantly bite and tear and rip his fingers apart, he'd have to wear thick leather gloves just to hold it.

After awhile it just becomes such a PITA to have a pet that you can't even hold but have to take care of that he ended up getting rid of it.

He didn't train it right then..
I've read a bunch of websites on how to do it... apparently it is *very* important to not mess that part up
 
One option to a sugar glider would be a southern flying squirrel.

I've had personal experience, if you have the time/attention to give them, they're amazing pets. Incredibly tame, they bond to the owner. Boxer was incredibly tame, never bit ever and was as friendly as you could imagine.

Please think hard before you do this. Sugar gliders have not been in captivity very long. They are not tame. You must make their food yourself or they will not be getting the proper nutrition. This takes a ton of ingredients and a blender and a freezer. They are nocturnal and I mean really nocturnal, only up between like 10 at night and 7 in the morning. They are a lot of work and a lot of time and energy. These are difficult pets. I tried one out but ended up having to return it to the breeder after a couple days because I realized there was NO way I could give it the proper care. A good breeder will give you a trial period because they know how difficult these pets are. Also they are illegal in some states!!!

What are the differences? I though that sugar glider and flying squirrel were synonymous

I have a friend who has two. He and his roommate take care of them and it is ALOT of work. He ended up training one of them (the other was trained by the breeder) and it was alot of work as well. They are fun..... but the attention they require.......a young child needs less

Exactly, they are so cute that people always want them but they are worse than a toddler!
