So...Vanguard

I played in the beta and enjoyed the game enough to digital download the game on release day. I played it a bit, but suddenly got his with the big drama beast and got completely turned off by this game. The waters have settled and a couple of players from the Vanguard team I gamed with have come back into the fold. We're now playing LOTRO. I haven't asked him if he plays Vanguard at all, but it got me thinking....

When it comes to the modern day MMO, is Vanguard considered a bust? I'm not looking to return as LOTRO has me and several of my close friends playing it. I was just curious.

Heh....there were tons of Brad McQuaid worshippers I used to play EQ with whom were ready to dedicate their lives to Vanguard, I think most of them had already quit even before Sony took over.

It is always a bad sign when servers are being merged rather than created this early into it's lifecycle. One of the guys in my FPS clan loves this game (well, everything but crafting), but the general consensus that I have ascertained has been that it was shipped way early and is unfinished and buggy.

Despite Sigils frenzied pace of refinement in the betas with patches coming twice per day, since they they've slacked off. And with their SOE buyout, their patch schedule has slowed almost to 1 a month.

Vanguard needs a considerable amount of refinement before I'll go try it again, even more so since their merged their RP server into the other PVE servers.

SOE is working hard to fix the game. I resubscribe every other month to see if it's gotten good enough to play again.

Should be ok by christmas.

Load of trash...Why bother to wait on a screwed up game to see if it gets better...might as well get a complete one.

I still play it.. hit max lvl.. waiting for the server merge and raid content atm.. can't imagine being on PVE server at max lvl and fully geared - what would you do? At least I can PVP all day.

game is still buggy, not as bad as it used to be.. really need to make sure you have updated drivers.. I updated my audio drivers and the game is running much better.

I believe they are re-releasing the game some time at the end of the year. It has a lot of potential, just hope it comes through.

Why resubscribe every month? Wouldn't that be the same price as staying subscribed?

Why waste your time? AoC is around the corner and Warhammer will ship in Q1 of 2009. Then you have Chornicles of Spell Born, Tabula Rasa, Aion, Huxley, etc...... Then if SOE can resurrect Vangaurd like they did with SWG ( it has 24 servers at most at medium and few at full population/load ) then props to them.

I loved the game, but they messed it up very badly. When I left a month or so ago due to them pulling the team PvP ruleset there were still a bunch of irritating bugs left over from release. The cash and resources problem Sigil had was evident all over the place. Maybe SOE will fix it.

Oops.

Well, still, this is why so many game companies love MMOs. Even if they blow ass they still make more money than a crappy non-MMO.

If you read like 1-2 months ago the dev(s) had a long thread about what was happening.

They expected a relaunch later in the year while they try and fix it up right.

I finally deleted this thing from my HD yesterday.....it was huge, 17 gigs IIRC!

.....and I reinstalled EQ2. For old players, there is a seven day free trial so I said, what the h*ll. Pretty big changes (for the good) that I've noticed so far. Performance is much better.....passage between zones is quick. And I noticed in the newbie zone in Commonlands you can actually solo outside the gate (it was a huge PITA before). What's this with the health? After you finish off an enemy, your health regenerates completely. Is is because I'm a newbie (level 15 dirge) or is this the way it is now? The interface is very slick and the game looks polished. For those EQ2 haters (me included) it's worth another look IMO.

Is this the same free trial that Sony sent me in the mail when they launched their PvP servers? Or is this something different? I would not mind playing a week to see the changes.

You basically just pick up where you left off with your old account. Sign in, the game will patch up (lotsa patching), and then you're on the clock for 7 days. I had a Bard that was level 15 in the Commonlands when I quit and he was still there.....a large number of spells were given to me and I had to choose between a Dirge andsomethingelseIcan'tremember(Troubadour????). I think there is also a trial where you download some content to play a Fae....don't know how that works.

BTW, I hadn't played for a longgggg time. Like I just lasted a month after it was first released. I think there is a cutoff date but I'm not sure what it is. I was willing to pay $15 to try it for just a month but after digging around on the Net I found I could get in free for 7 days.
