So uh...is anything going to be done about the NSA?

"Today, no telephone in America makes a call without leaving a record with the NSA. Today, no Internet transaction enters or leaves America without passing through the NSA's hands," Snowden said in a statement Thursday.

"Our representatives in Congress tell us this is not surveillance. They're wrong."

Edward Snowden has changed the world. Hero or villain...I can't stomach calling him a villain.

If what he says is true, then this is wrong, and he is a hero.

How the hell did it come to this?

Find a third party with small government principles, then vote for them.

Frankly, this is the only thing that might compel me to do exactly that.

Although it really is for naught. Once people start voting third party in larger groups one of the two major parties will change stance to pull votes from them. I guess that's good.

Only chance of something getting done is if someone thinks it will help them get elected by promising to do something about it and actually does something about it. Until then an all-powerful spying Government organization serves all politicians well. Especially this far away from any elections.

Why would you even ask if something will be done about the NSA? If you are lucky, we wont have another false flag attack resulting in a 10 fold growth of the NSA. Tyranny moves in one direction only: towards more tyranny. The NSA will NEVER go away, until the entire edifice of corruption is brought down, probably in a war resulting in 200 million deaths.

Keith Alexander and his minions need to be fired and perhaps tried for teason. I cannot believe Congress is not holding hearings around the clock. This makes any scandal ever in the history of this country seem like child's play. Heck, this is the step before death / concentration camps.

Problem with Congress (and Obama) is that the NSA has dirt on them.

I have little doubt that they approached candidate Obama:

NSA: So you want to be President?
Candidate Obama: Yes, damn straight!
NSA: Well, we know you were born in Kenya. And we know what papers your wrote in college and for your Master's thesis, etc. Those are pretty socialist.
Candidate Obama: *Gulp*
NSA: How about we make a deal? We won't show any of this to anyone. In fact, we will make sure there is no record of your past anywhere. How does that sound?
Candidate Obama: What's the catch?
NSA: You'll tow the line. You'll make sure no one, not even Congress, impedes our work. The money will continue to flow. And flow even more. Deal?

countries violated by the USA and NSA will push harder to remove control of the internet from the USA. Germany will lead the charge.

Well let's see.

Your cell is tapped and the phone in the basement.

USA has pissed off at the least--and to a LARGE degree, not just an annoyance, a multitude of countries including major allies in Europe and yet Obama hasn't said anything interesting and nobody in Washington with any pull gives a fuck.

So I would say no nothing will be done.

As you were told enjoy your cup of totalitarianism: rember though, war is peace.

The NSA is probably borrowing a play from J. Edgar Hoover by keeping files of dirt on every congressman they can. If some congressmen gets uppity, the NSA "leaks" that persons fetish for donkeys or whatnot.

Sounds crazy, but it has been done before and at this point I wouldn't put it past the NSA as they have the ability to justify and rationalize anything.

edit: lol, after I replied I read the rest of this thread and it looks like you and I are thinking the same thing per your #8 post.

That is an excellent idea. For reference, OP, the libertarian party is currently the third largest political party in the united states and is all about personal freedom. Look into it.

Of course, something will be done, if not already. More control and automation of government programs/operations to minimize leaks, regardless of their constitutionality. More mass-media propaganda to make public accept that they have no privacy, and that they should live with it. More shaming such as "do you have something to hide?", and the good ole' terrorism scare.

Obama is going to get right on that after the ten stop Obamacare is the greatest campaign tour. I'm hoping for no more fainting onlookers because it's become the norm.

Edward Snowden has NOT changed the world, as witnessed by the NSA continuing the exact same policies without even attempting to hide them.

53% of American voters voted for bigger government. This is what bigger government does. Power given will be power exercised and increased, without exception. The vast majority of Americans are okay with this.

Yep. There's no going back. Anyone that's clean enough to not be a target for the NSA will be a target for the media, irrespective of party.

He's shown that it's more pervasive--the surveillance--than we ever knew, and also that the American people are more apathetic than we could ever have feared.

He may not have changed the USA, but he may be changing the world. He's been smart enough to let this information leak out slowly over time. This ensures that it stays in the news, and new revelations have made the US have to answer to more of what it does.

I watched that video above. The first time I don't really dislike Maggie Jalenhal <sp>

Anybody see that the NSA website was taken down (it's down right now) from DDOS?

Do you really think that third party would make a significant change to America?

IMHO, not thing will change because the few wealthy class will end up belong that new third party.

A Canadian political example: The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada was/is a failed political party after the disastrous Good and Services Tax that was pushed down the Canadian throat, but some how PC members still lived on. Most of the PC members are now belong the Liberal Party that was the main opponent of the PC, and the remaining PC members stayed and morph into the Canadian Alliance Party. Also, the Liberal platform was to remove the GST during the 1993 election that gave it a landside win vs. the PC, however they lied to the public and keep the GST. Politicians steals/lies and get away with it, because the public let them.

I truly believe that American are fuck regardless of what you do, and the only way to change the political landscape now is not through a civil war, because diplomacy no longer work.

Someone did mentioned this in another thread, and that someone will get kill if he/she try to do the right thing. Aka, John F. Kennedy.

Or, the NSA would just use a more modern method than the images below.

If there is a change - and personally I doubt there will be - I think it will come next time we have a Republican President. Generally speaking the left is better on this than the right, but far too many on the left are not willing to criticize the Messiah, let alone work against him. With a Republican President we might actually see some movement - although I still think far too many Americans actually support this to change it.

And personally I love Maggie Gyllenhaal - even though I don't agree with her on that much, I find her a lot smarter than the average Hollywood air head and I like her passion. I also find her smoking hot.

My complaint with her is I find her extremely, sometimes breathtakingly--I know you want me to say hot, but ugly. I just do, something about her really just irks me in the aesthetic department.

I know nothing of her personality, though.

Yeah, I expect really nothing to particularly change, and like an Orwellian state the people in Washington will just parrot on about the threat of terrorism (the permanent state of war like Eurasia was in) and the sheep will eat it up. I really think a person can basically get mad or just try and get back into the matrix to eat steak.
