Let me guess....

They're going to strip it down to base from all the additions in the expansions, like they did for the Sims 2 and 3, and then come out with 59,848,934 Expansions at $29 a pop.

Wonder how long they'll wait to add pets this time? :D

oh look, simcity bombed so now they're pushing out another big name franchise to pad their bottom line.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

fuck you EA.

...because they somehow make more money releasing it now instead of later?

Do the expansions for these games ever go on sale and/or get put into a discounted bundle pack? I have a naked version of the sims 3 but can never get myself to pay so much for the expansions.

The Sims 4 should be the ability of your sim family to live in your crappy SimCity.

Heh, that reminded me of this:

Amazon has had some major deals on the expansions. There are some deals going on right now, but not for as low as I've seen them.

If you're talking about simcity, that was released to pad Q1 revenues. Like all big companies, they have revenue targets to hit.

Sims 4 is just announced as a response to the terribleness that is Simcity. "Oh damn this game bombed, better get some other popular game name out there so our stocks don't tumble any more!"

Or, because the Sims is one of the best selling franchises in the history of gaming, they are making a sequel. And despite all you crybabies crying about EA, it will sell millions of copies and have 5 expansions that also sell millions.

Also, EA stock has not tumbled. It did dip slightly around the SimCity launch, but it is back on the rise.

I'm sure it will. Mom buying his son a present will not care and will not know what "DRM" is, and neither will the 20 year old college girl that thinks the "sims are cute".

Meanwhile those who are knowledgeable and educated about EA's deplorable practices can vote with their wallets. You go ahead and support the corporation that doesn't give a shit about their customers and doesn't even give refunds. Lots of people give zynga their cash too, you can join the herd.

Fixed. Sims 1 had 7 expansions, Sims 2 had 8, and Sims 3 has 9 with 2 more planned. Milk that cash cow, EA. I know I would.

Heh, I didn't like the Sims so I never bought any of them or the expansions. I didn't realize they had so many. And people say expansions are dead in favor of DLC!

the expansions were made before the days of the DLCs. If you look at them now, they'd all be called DLCs. Hell, most of the "expansions" just adds more clothes and furniture, usually some "theme" or whatever. Why sell expansions and pay money to distributors when you can use DLCs, which are infinitely easier to distribute?

This is the trend of the industry in general, not specific to EA.

The Sims 3 "expansions" cost $39.99, not $29.

Those were never called expansions. They are stuff packs.

I thought these games died out? I haven't been paying attention at all lol.

Huge cash cow, EA will never let it "die".

Wow, shows how long it's been since I bought one. Even in the Sims 1 era they were that much? Shocked that I paid that much back in the day.

The latest expansions are $40. The earlier (and previous games') expansions were cheaper IIRC. $30 or so?

I guess as games transitioned from $50 -> $60, so did the DLC from $30 -> $40

lol, EA.

We all knew this was coming. The most fun I'll have with the game is the forum discussions over whatever nonsense they put out there to justify the always-online requirement. Certainly won't be buying it, didn't touch Simcity 5 even though I enjoyed the past games.
