There was a rumour going around earlier today that it will not require players to be online.

Sims 3 was a good game but admittedly it felt lacking. For the record, all it's expansions combined retail for $419.83 on Steam, on top of the price for the base game. Which is probably as much as the computers most people use to play it on.

I enjoyed the previous Sims games for awhile, though I never did the expansions or anything. If it's not always-online and doesn't require Origin or some shit then I'll give it a shot.

Same.

I wont buy any single player games that require always on connections, not from ea, not from activision/blizzard, not from ubisoft, or anyone else.

But, I usually get my money's worth from the base sims games that I don't mind buying them (they can pump out whatever expansions they want, I usually won't bother purchasing those).

Well, I do usually buy the base game either to just build my weird, warped cities, or to set up death traps for unwitting sims.

Don't think I've ever played the game to just do it normally, i.e. raising a sim family.

the expansions were made before the days of the DLCs. If you look at them now, they'd all be called DLCs. Hell, most of the "expansions" just adds more clothes and furniture, usually some "theme" or whatever. Why sell expansions and pay money to distributors when you can use DLCs, which are infinitely easier to distribute?

This is the trend of the industry in general, not specific to EA.

The ones that add furniture, clothes and items are between 9.99 and 19.99. The major ones, that everybody thinks of when they think "Sims Expansions" such as "Pets" or "Nightlife", add way more content than your typical DLC. They're way more along the lines of old-school Expansions, than modern DLCs.
