that's very true. i like to shop for t-shirts at a place called hot topic (in the west coast), and it's commonly run by a bunch of goths, but they're really nice, though they look like a zombie from doom 3. nan0bug is also right about judging people before you know them. people are no different from books; u cant judge them by their looks. it's also the reason for racism.

Disagree; skin color, for the most part (M. Jackson excepted), isn't a choice & doesn't change. These kidiots look the way they look by choice, and it changes by the time they're 15 at the oldest.

hot topic is the one stop poser shop.

sure skin color isnt choice. but you have to except people for who they are and let them do what they want to do, if you cant handle that, you might as well be 15 also.

it' was mostly about raising a freak flag in a world i felt very alienated from.

I liked when South Park had the goth kids on.

"Goth Kid: To be a non-conformist, you have to dress in black, and listen to the same music we do."

:D LOL

'Matrix kids' make me laugh. Walking around in full length black leather coats, thinking the system is out to get you and 'jacking in' to your XBOX every night DOTH NOT MAKE YOU 'NEO'.

It's like a bastardized Goth thing.

My BF is into goth dress. We have talked about it to great length mostly because i never understood the need to dress up like that. So far I have come to understand it is about personifying another state of personality. It takes them from the day to day self to an altered self and allows them to free themselves and be a bit more expressive. Some people express their inner selves by writing, some by dancing, some by painting, and some by dressing up in a specific way. Firstly, it is not about attention and the dress itself is not meant to be satanic there are many Christians who dress up in Goth. It is more of an artistic and emotional expression than anything else. For many Goths is is just plain fun to dressup. The best way to approach it on a personal level is to try it the way I did, goto an art museum and see how many ways painters can express a concept or feeling. Dressing up in Goth is just another way of someone expressing themselves, as they see it, in a positive way. Even though the dress is morbid or dark dont think it is meant to portay that because it is not about how you feel it is about how it makes that person feel being dressed like that. And if it helps them with coping with our infinitly complex and somtimes harsh world and thereby preventing a more extreme way of dealing with it, then whos to say it is bad. If you still cant get over the look try walking up to a person dressed in Goth and honestly and openly ask them why the dress the way they do. There is no harm and hey meybe you will some away from the conversation a little bit more enlightened.

This post is an excellent explanation of the origins of goth styles. It is a way of expressing one's self much like any other art form. The term 'goth' comes from gothic which should bring up thought of ornate stylings and generally unneccesary but pretty to look at designs just like gothic architechture. This is carried into clothing and you can see its influence in many styles of the gothic period of history in Europe. The style continues on today however it has been watered down by most of the 'followers' into just dressing in lots of black and being moody. There are still goths in existence and I have known a few people who I might consider actual goths, but I can understand the general stereotype most people have when they think of a goth person from all the misguided teens that like to pretend they are being non-conformist.

welcome to 1995 people. jesus. actually, 1985 might be more on target. and that's just for goths.

"and what's with those damn mods, with their long hair cuts!?! some of them have hair down past their ears, and i hear they all listen to a devil band called the beatles."

The real goths were in the 1980's. Then Marilyn Manson came out and spawned a decade of poser-ass, depressed 16-year-old girls with blue/black hair and pale skin. The only upshot is it keeps Suicide Girls full of freak chicks good for look every now and again.

I guess my question is why do people constantly feel the need to judge each other? I mean when I worked there I'd dress up in khaki's and a tie, clothing from the GAP, etc. just to piss people off. So many Goth kids came in and said crap about me not belonging there and how I'm not hardcore - but WTF did I care? I never gave a crap what other people wore, except when some hot ass girls barely wearing anything came into the store and suddenly I was a customer service specialist.

I think the bottom line is it doesn't really matter what people wear or what they look like, some days I dress in jeans and a beatup t-shirt, other days its a suit, but either way I'm no different for my choice of style any given day. Some goth kids are douchebags and others a real cool - just like any other group. You'd think us internet nerds would appreciate the struggle - "No one will be free until nerd persecution ends"..... LOL

I go to hottopic for there tshirts... they got some cool ones.. i have like 4 family guy tshirts from them :)

Dressing like a dead person with 57 earings, noserings, etc hanging out of your face? WTF? Is there some kind of philosophy behind it? Are they trying to look scary or tough? Why? If they think the way they look makes people scared of them they need a reality check. That look doesn't say to me "Don't mess with me or you'll get beat up, maimed, satanic sacrificed, etc..." It says" I'm really pathetic, I can't handle the reality of life so I'll hide here in my freaky little world with other pathetic people who are just like me."

So, really, enlighten me. What is up with those people?

Far be it from me to defend Goths, however, if you don't like it, don't look at them.
