yeah some of my best friends in highschool were goths. I was part of the "smart" slacker group and thier was a big overlap in our groups. although my school was wierd at least from what I heard from other schools. everyone seemed to get along with everyone. (except the wierd group of kids who all they did was play magic in thier free time and never showerd)

Exactly. I LOVE that. They think they're being so different...but they're just conforming to a different group.

My sister is "punk" which follows the same philosphy...she scoffed when after they put an Aeropostal in the mall, x amount of kids were wearing aeropostal the next day. Great sis...if they put in a Hot Topic, how many of YOUR friends would shop there that week??

CORRECTION: Hot Goth chicks are hot.

Sub-hot Goth chicks are potentially the nastiest of the nasty, like 400 pounds of nasty. Yech.

My BF is into goth dress. We have talked about it to great length mostly because i never understood the need to dress up like that. So far I have come to understand it is about personifying another state of personality. It takes them from the day to day self to an altered self and allows them to free themselves and be a bit more expressive. Some people express their inner selves by writing, some by dancing, some by painting, and some by dressing up in a specific way. Firstly, it is not about attention and the dress itself is not meant to be satanic there are many Christians who dress up in Goth. It is more of an artistic and emotional expression than anything else. For many Goths is is just plain fun to dressup. The best way to approach it on a personal level is to try it the way I did, goto an art museum and see how many ways painters can express a concept or feeling. Dressing up in Goth is just another way of someone expressing themselves, as they see it, in a positive way. Even though the dress is morbid or dark dont think it is meant to portay that because it is not about how you feel it is about how it makes that person feel being dressed like that. And if it helps them with coping with our infinitly complex and somtimes harsh world and thereby preventing a more extreme way of dealing with it, then whos to say it is bad. If you still cant get over the look try walking up to a person dressed in Goth and honestly and openly ask them why the dress the way they do. There is no harm and hey meybe you will some away from the conversation a little bit more enlightened.

Dressing like a dead person with 57 earings, noserings, etc hanging out of your face? WTF? Is there some kind of philosophy behind it? Are they trying to look scary or tough? Why? If they think the way they look makes people scared of them they need a reality check. That look doesn't say to me "Don't mess with me or you'll get beat up, maimed, satanic sacrificed, etc..." It says" I'm really pathetic, I can't handle the reality of life so I'll hide here in my freaky little world with other pathetic people who are just like me."

So, really, enlighten me. What is up with those people?

Maybe you were still in diapers in the 70's to see the paralell to the punk movement?

I thought that was essentially a given.

i'm goth/punk for 5 or 6 weekends out of the year

dressing all freaky and dancing until 5am makes me feel good
it helps express ME and eases the stress of day-to-day life

contrary to most stereotypes...most goths don't take massive amounts of drugs, they don't try to kill themselves every other weekend....they don't accent their all black attire with a hot pink purse and shoes...and they sure as hell don't hang at the mall

Man, what have I tried to teach ya'll....

First off: fat women make better lovers because they have to try harder than skinnier ones.

Second: lesbians need lovin' too...just like any man does. Just because they are different inside doesn't mean we need to make fun of them or anything.

Third: kids that wear gothy clothes need loving too. Just because they worship Satan and do weird stuff, doesn't mean we need to treat them weird. Because they are normal...just like everyone else.

Most goth kids try not to be trendy, yet they shot at Hot Topic which is the most trendy store in malls.

that's very true. i like to shop for t-shirts at a place called hot topic (in the west coast), and it's commonly run by a bunch of goths, but they're really nice, though they look like a zombie from doom 3. nan0bug is also right about judging people before you know them. people are no different from books; u cant judge them by their looks. it's also the reason for racism.

Disagree; skin color, for the most part (M. Jackson excepted), isn't a choice & doesn't change. These kidiots look the way they look by choice, and it changes by the time they're 15 at the oldest.
