FUKIN STUPID PIECE OF ******..

I've been wrestling with getting the wires in order and trying to get them to contact the side of the head...
I hope this is the right order.. TIP ORANGE, ORANGE, TIP GREEN, BLUE, TIP BLUE, GREEN, TIP BROWN, BROWN

 WTF?

Someone cut your cable. Find orange cable. Find other half of orange cable. Twist. Repeat for other colours.

Uh. Isnt the little golden wire thing supposed to touch?

If you're referring to something as a "little golden wire thing" then you should immediately strip the insulation off and mate the ends to a mains supply of electricity. And for god's sake, don't breed.

Right...

Well, if you stick the ends into the mains then I suppose you'll short-circuit the process, and be awarded the much-coveted Darwin Award.
Until then, you're probably just better off realising that elementary physics and electrical skills are beyond your grasp and going to buy a new cable.

I'm being awarded the Darwin Award for not knowing how to wire an ethernet cable?

There is no such thing as an Ethernet cable.

There is no such thing as no such thing.

Why does that oddly sound incredibly kinky?

Get 16 cups and 8 lengths of string, long enough to go from your computer to the internet. attach a cup to each end of each string, repeat until there is a cup attached to each end of each string. plug one end into the internet and the other into your computer. This should fix the internet.

Please clearly explain why your cable was cut. (Please remember that we have little to no idea about your life, so provide all relevant information.)

I highly recommend that you attempt making your own. It's a neat skill and only takes a few minutes to learn. All you need is a crimping tool, a roll of cat5 or cat6 cable, and some heads. You might screw up the first time, but it's really quite easy.

Or you can just spend a few bucks and buy a new one. I don't know why someone would cut your cable though

Stupid question, but does this really *require* a crimper in order to work? I found a head (not previously used), and then messed with the wires, positive they're in order and just plugged the thing in the router.. no green lights :(

Tried about 20+ times.. damnit.

Well, yeah, kinda. When you put the wires into the head, they should have insulation on them (which are colored to tell you which order they should be in). The way the contacts on the head are able to touch the bare wires is by crimping it -- the pins/contacts on the head slide further up into the head, puncturing the wire.

if someone cut my ethernet cable (ethernet cable! ethernet cable!) i'd probably cut off their finger and use the flesh and bone to repair the cable, as a warning to all others who dared cut off my intrawebs.

you were right, an assortment of tools and spool of cable will not help this one.

As in, the stuff inside the orange wire? That = bare wire?

RTJ is online on his computer.

Woot.

Couldn't get the damn insulation off with a knife so I had to burn it. And my speed is faster than before, haha.

Used to be 2.6 Mbps
Took a test and its around 2.7+
