"fan of the nvidia salesman"

whats THAT supposed to mean?

i dont know if your talking about rollo, but last i checked he's probably got the best ATI card of anyone who visits this place.

if hes an "Nvidia salesman" (yet I had no idea he was), yet has a X800XT PE, I'll take his word for it.. ATI must REALLY suck! :p

brother rollo even calls it a "top notch gaming card"..

I was going to get an x800XL, but I didn't think a sheet of paper would work well in the PCIe slot, so I bought the Neo2 Platinum mobo and a 6800GT Golden Sample (got this one on the FS/T).

It's a little loud, but damned sweet. Never looking back either. ATi lost a sale on me.

Bad time to upgrade now, it seems. No one wants to invest in an AGP system, but at the same time PCI-E motherboards and video cards are extremely scarce and expensive. Why is this taking so long? Intel didn't seem to have any trouble jumping into this.

Just give it a few months...

Horrible time to upgrade.. cuz I'm trying to do it right now..

I've even looking into Dell, at least they have PCIE cards.. I'm essentially shopping for a video card.. nto a computer :)

Thats what its turned into for me at least. I could give a damn about the performance of the A64 over the Prescott w/HT (personally I like HT, seems more useful than 64bit right now)... give me a 6800 or x800xt and I'm on board.

they're probably thinking if we are dumb enough to pay $500, they'll have one of those damn Mounties bring one down ASAP.

speaking of which, that shouldve been ATIs rep.. a mountie.. lol takes the little bit of cool ATI has away really fast.

I'm just impressed that ATi managed to ship something. That's a big step forward for them recently.

If the price ever makes it down to MSRP, this will be a great card.

I called them today, and they didn't have a clue when it would ship. They said to try and call back in a couple weeks. :disgust:

In the mean time while everyone waits I will enjoy my 6800GT. I will probably go back to ATI next round because I usually buy them and have been very happy. nVidia just managed to suck less this round in getting products to the stores.

If these cards ever get down to $300 I will probably have to buy one for my bro so he can retire his 9600 pro.

Well it's true...the benchmarks show that paper is MUCH slower than a 6800GT when rendering PC apps...

So what is the exact reason for the shortage of cards? I can't fathom what is stopping them from making them. Lack of silicon???

And please can this be the last thread that uses the phrase "price gouging" in regards to computer components because its not, its a markup, if you want to see price gouging, go to indonesia right about now, or read what happened after hurricane andrew hit, or when the famine hit east africa. if you dont need it to "live" or its not food, shelter or medicine then its not gouging, so stop please, it just makes us all look completey self-absorbed and disconncted with the "real world" and reality.

WHY? $800 isn't alot for me, and considering the current market it was a steal.
not to mention the glory of doom3 in 2048x1536, well worth it. there are people who buy watches for $1500 when a $10 doller one will do the same job, and better, that is far more puzzleing than paying more and getting more.

That's what happens when your top end chips are so complicated to manufacture that the yields on chips that actually perform at spec are only one out of every ten....
