So my High School decided to buy 1000 tablet pcs for every student and faculty member in the building. They're $2200 a piece and this year they cheated the upcoming Freshman by giving them refurbished laptops without telling them. The school's administrators didn't even notice that Fujitsu was pulling this trick. Parents called in who noticed this, so not only did they price gauge everyone, they completely ripped them off. Their service is horrible btw, what a waste, going with IBM would have probobly been a better idea.

edit:
I forgot to mention the specs:
Pentium M 1.6GHZ
256MB RAM
40GB 4200RPM HDD
12" tablet screen
4 hours of battery life
DVD combo drive

Very likely they have a contract, and that contract says either they all have to be new tablets, in which case Fujitsu will have to replace them, or that they can be refurbished, in which case your school should've paid better attention.

Either way, doesn't bother me too much. There are much better ways to spend that kind of money for a school than on computers the students don't need.

Wow, you've seen the contract that says they have to provide new computers to every class?

The computers are nice, but I would have gotten a mac if I only used it for school work.

Our technology administrator said that they broke the contract.

Wow, stupid. So many townships and cities complaining of massive budget shortfalls in recent year, yet so many Elemetary/Middle/High schools manage to have money for this absolute waste.

Actually, this school isn't part of the town ship, our school is private. I've never heard of a public school buying laptops for kids.

Why would high school students get tablet PC?. Faculties are okay, but students? Such a waste of money. Might as well use the money for salary increase, school events, programs or just buy those one-in-all desktops (much cheaper although not a laptop).

Is the $2200 part of the tutition?

Rather confused???? $2200 a pop?

Exactly what I was thinking.

Give the extra cash to the teachers.

You pay tuition, plus $2200 extra that you must pay to be in the school. All together, it's pricey.

ever since the class of 09' kids came in, they all got the option of buying tablet pcs (some toshiba with pentium M 1.73Ghz, 512MB ram, etc). this year, they get screwed over because the price dropped significantly and now the tablet pcs got upgraded to dual-core (yonah, not core 2 duo/merom), 1GB of ram, a dvd-rw drive (the original tablet pcs had NO cd drive at all), etc.

i dont see the point of getting tablet pcs in our school.
