Wow, stupid. So many townships and cities complaining of massive budget shortfalls in recent year, yet so many Elemetary/Middle/High schools manage to have money for this absolute waste.

Actually, this school isn't part of the town ship, our school is private. I've never heard of a public school buying laptops for kids.

Students in Henrico county Virginia received iBooks. I was part of the first run :D It was fun because when they first handed them over, it was without any monitoring/security software installed and everyone was downloading mp3s, videos (porn even), and games during school :)
Then they installed a bunch of crap and we couldn't do anything on them.. except AIM express :)

Very likely they have a contract, and that contract says either they all have to be new tablets, in which case Fujitsu will have to replace them, or that they can be refurbished, in which case your school should've paid better attention.

Either way, doesn't bother me too much. There are much better ways to spend that kind of money for a school than on computers the students don't need.

The computers are nice, but I would have gotten a stack of lined paper and a pencil if I only used it for school work.

Don't feel bad. I bet Smartazz's parents got a nice voucher / tax credit from the Bush government for the cost of private tuition plus $2200 extra for the overpriced laptop. Go to a public high school for a year, then complain about the lack of IT in the classroom.

I'm sorry, but $2200 is no way justifiable. They should have gone directly to the software distributors for site licenses rather than through the tablet provider. That would have easily shaved $100+ off per laptop.

Stupid boy. The school would much rather deal with less vendors as it saves tremendous amount of time and money. Also remember that school is a business and they wouldn't sell laptops without being able to offset additional expense of having staff to maintain the networks in addition to making profit. Regardless, they are successful as the parents are forking out the cash in the end. I see nothing wrong with this model. Students get a cool laptop making the school look attractive and the school makes additional profit. It's a win win situation.

FUJITSU SIEMENS IS THE WORST PC COMPUTER MAKER EVER
Do not buy products fujitsu siemens or their parent companies
I bought an amilo 1630 worst pc ever
There are no words to describe their products or services.
Here are the emails that I have sent regarding my problems

Dear Gisela Hummitzsch,

There are a couple of points that I would like you to note.

1)First when I bought my computer and upgraded at the time of buying, the ram that originally came with was taken away(BY COSMOS MICROCOMPUTER) and I was given the new ram. So there is no way that the original configuration could be kept.

2)When I bought the computer I wasn't shown any service level agreement by cosmos micro computer. I was only told that the extended warrently covered everything on the invoice. And fujitsu siemens keeps track of everything as they have some sort of a global databases for the computers sold.

3)I bought my computer from an authorized seller of Fujitsu Siemens products,(cosmos micro computer) and not from someone of the street. I expected integrity, transparency, efficiency and honesty, as they represent Fujitsu Siemens. Apparently they lack all these qualities. Now I begin to think that a boo boo has been made, a blame game is starting and there is no one to take responsibility.

4)I sent my computer for repair 3 times within the first year of purchase. For the first 2 times to repair the computer it took 1 month!!!!. So after owning the computer for 1 year, I have only been able to use it for 10 months!!!!.(WHICH IS QUITE SHOCKING) You can verify this with your internal records.

5)The computer overheats on a regular basis. It sounds like a jet taking off. It is extremely extremely likely that the ram was damaged by the heat from the computer. I can't even run a virus scan on my computer without it heating up, making some noise, and then instantly shutting down.

Taking all this into account, I want a new and working computer, with same or better specs.

Kind Regards,
Dhaval

Sehr geehrter Herr Degean,

the notebook with the serial number YSNA025832 was shipped with 2 SODIMM Memory modules 256MB PC333 DDR. So this notebook came with 512 mb ram and only this original shipped configuration is covered by the warranty. For all problems resulting from any upgrade you must contact the person or dealer who did the upgrade. So please set back the notebook in the original shipped state and if the problem is still existent please contact your local helpdesk for a warranty repair. Please notice that any defects or malfunctions etc resulting from damages during the upgrade process are not covered by Fujitsu-Siemens warranty, too. To see this in detail please take a look at the warranty conditions attached.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen

I WANT A COMPUTER THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE REPAIRED EVER TWO WEEKS!!!

To whom it may concern,

When I bought my computer, and upgraded the ram (at the time of purchase of
the computer from cosmos micro computer), I was told that the extended
warranty covered the ram as i was buying a COMPLETE COMPUTER SYSTEM.

Currently my ram is not working and I want it replaced, as the (cosmos micro
computer) salesman who sold the computer to me informed me the extended
warranty covers it.

There is no misunderstanding here.

I want accountability.

I want my ram replaced free of cost.

Dhaval

To the people at Redington Middle East,

I had originally bought my computer from cosmos micro computer (CMC)

When I bought my computer from CMC I had my ram upgraded (at the time I
bought my computer) by them and was told THAT FUJITSU SIEMENS WARRANTY
covered it and the extended warranty also covered it.

So when I got my motherboard replaced, I should also get my ram replaced and
told that the warranty does not cover it.

If you take a moment and look at the original laptop invoice the ram is a
part of it.

If there is any confusion it is certainly not at my part.

Please have the ram ready to be collected.

Currently my laptop is not in a working condition.

Attached with this email are my relevant laptop documents.

Regards
Dhaval

2200 for the specs you posted is insane! Plus fujitsu sucks! Being a private school I could see getting all the kids thier own laptops, I mean the parents put them in a private school and are paying for it so whatever, thats on them. I'm just shocked at the price of those ****** things, and some were even refurb!!! $2200 for a refurb? get out of here

so it's not ok that they gave you refurbished untis. fine. but ytf does every student and faculty member need a tablet laptop. and why a tablet? would have been better to get non tablet and better specs if we're talking.

seems like a waste to me.

They didn't cost the school $2,200 - that's what the school charged the parents. I'm guessing they paid around $600 each for them.

why would parents even agree to pay for it? for 2200 you can buy atleast 3 laptops with tax included.

I know the new high school in my area tried a laptop program.

ended it after 1 year, because people were stealing them and or breaking them. Lots of people called it dumb.

What else can we add the list...

- Indoor swimming pool
- state of the art sports field and track
- brand new school construction instead of adding on
- state of the art weight room
- state of the art auditorium and AV room
- computers labs and library with full unrestricted Internet access
- bussing children with SUVs (yea some schools do this)

I wonder why if we're going tp splurge, why we don't splurge on something academic...

man, my high school doesn't even had a projector! we had some old school projectors but after i graduated ('03,) they received the money from government to renovate the entire school. what a pansy.

now they got a second gym. i recall splitting practice time with girls basketball team (i played basketball for four years.) :|

but i'm glad i found a college that provides everything. 15,000 students and almost every room is installed with a projector. it's uber sweet! oh yeah, it's a technical school. in every computer lab, all computers come with dual cores (for windows) and latest imacs with intel chips. isn't it so sweet?

sorry for the grammar, i'm kind of sleeping. damn drowsy.
