So my neighbor had FIOS installed today.....

There was one guy at first doing the install, then other VZ vans started showing up. I was like......"WTF is this a convention??". They said they don't like to leave guys stranded & always kinda' rally around the last guy back to the yard. (Okee dokee)


So anyway...........my neighbor was bummed a bit about where the equipment was mounted in the garage & how the lines were run "outside" her garage against the stucco of her house, but I assured her that was probably the 'norm' as nobody wants to fish thru walls anymore. The VZ guy told me I could probably get 'em to clean things up a bit if they did my house, I'd just have to be sure & BE there to tell 'em where I wanted lines going.

OK fine...........BUT..........................


The guy started tellin' me how I could have TV in my whole house to all of my 4 TV's w/o ANY set top boxes & I wouldn't miss a beat vs. my current cable. Well, here's the problem with that.........

You can do this EXCEPT there will be no channels over 49 and NONE of the higher cable channels I'm used to (like TLC, USA, TNT, etc.) unless I use an STB.😕

This means that YES, I WOULD have to have FOUR stb's in my house to keep what I've got w/ cable right now.😕

The guy kept talking about how I'd *SAVE MONEY*........*SAVE MONEY*.......*SAVE MONEY*.........but as I look at it, it'll cost almost EXACTLY the same amount as I pay for basic cable. (Maybe even more after all the stb's I'd have to rent from VZ).:disgust:


Does anybody know differently or am I seeing things correctly here????

That and it sounds like you're complaining about Verizon trying to get you to use their services and having one of thier employees say you'll save money. What is he supposed to do? Tell you not to get it? 😕
 
I think I figured out what OT's problem is.

(Someone else will come along here and read this thread and it will make perfect sense to them soon).


OT folks want the whole message in the thread *OR* the title. They can't blend both.


The title talks about my neighbor having FIOS installed today.

The thread talks about my conversation w/ the FIOS folks. (Need I really explain that I walked over to my neighbor's to talk with her and the FIOS folks??)

It seems like your rationalizing against fios. Who's your current cable provider?
 
I understand what you're saying... but I'm not sure why you're complaining about it.

Is there a discount if you get FIOS Internet + TV?

I'd take FIOS TV for the same cost as my cable, because I have NO love for my cable company.

Current cable provider is Adelphia/TW......(they're currently switching over here in So Cal)


I don't have a problem w/ Adelphia, but I definitely like not having to have ANY stb's in my house currently vs. being stuck w/ stb's at every TV in my house if I were to use FIOS..........(and wanted to watch TLC, USA, TNT, etc. etc.)

And, believe me.........I want FIOS to be better than cable 'cuz I think cable needs a wake-up call.........but I don't want to have to go out of my way in equipment and/or $$$ to be a part of that cause. 🙁

I thought there would be a discount, but no. And, as I mentioned.......due to the fact that I'd have to rent STB's for every TV in my house to watch the same channels I do now, I might very well end up paying MORE!! Yikes!! :Q

Uh... well, it helps if the title has *something* to do with the point/subject of your post. If the title was "Verizon FiOS TV requires STBs!", then people wouldn't be as confused. Your post starts out talking about the Verizon guys, then switches to your neighbor being annoyed at where they ran the wires, then you're bitching about cable TV. A little ADD.

To be fair, the only reason you don't have to have STBs now with cable is that you don't get digital cable or any pay channels (like HBO/Showtime). But, yeah, that's kind of a pain if you just want 'basic cable'. My parents are supposed to be getting that in a couple months, so maybe I'll see if they have the same restrictions up here.

And that's where the problem lies for me, ultimately. Analog cable is 1-99 and includes most of the channels we've come to know as "extended" offerings.

Analog FIOS is 1-49 and includes what we considered "rabbit ear" channels back in 1976 and does *not* include the 'extended' offerings we've come to expect coming directly from the wall in coaxial cable. 🙁
