So my neighbor had FIOS installed today.....

damn, that sucks. I don't want STB's everywhere 🙁 I wouldn't mind if it were just a little cheaper than cable... I'm sick and tired of comcast. We need some freakin competition.

On a positive note for us........(people that share yours and my view of the multiple stb issue).........I can say that from what the VZ folks said, they can hardly keep up with the new service installations. The reason I say 'positive', is that even though we may not be among those that jump on board, let's hope that it puts enough of a dent in the big cable co's pride that perhaps they start treating us (possibly the minority in the near future?) like we're worth something.

And if there's a solution to this, I see it coming in 2 forms........

#1.) FIOS finds a way to give customers the option of a "cable-equivalent" channel lineup w/o using stb's in every room.

#2.) Cable comes up w/ slightly higher HSI speeds and/or lower prices to dodge the incentives currently luring people away to FIOS.

Cable companies wont lower their prices because of FIOS. At least not in the near future. I am sick of the monopoly they have had for so long though.

I think I figured out what OT's problem is.

(Someone else will come along here and read this thread and it will make perfect sense to them soon).

OT folks want the whole message in the thread *OR* the title. They can't blend both.

The title talks about my neighbor having FIOS installed today.

The thread talks about my conversation w/ the FIOS folks. (Need I really explain that I walked over to my neighbor's to talk with her and the FIOS folks??)

Actually OT folks CAN blend in one thread title with two messages in the thread together. It does however, require you to pay a little attention to how you write the post. I actually read your post twice and still didn't get it till I ran into your explanation a few replies down.

Case in point in regards to my posting style from a thread a few months ago..........

(Note JoLLyRoGer's post.........**2nd from the top**.........in regards to what I wrote) ------->

It's not that I don't think my subject matter may be a little disjunct when I split info between the title and OP.......if I reeeally open my mind I can see where folks might not be able to get the big picture.

It's actually in my *surprise* that we have mostly college-educated people in here that can't exercise anything more than PBJ reading comprehension skills to get the gist of a thread w/o responding as if somebody typed in arabic on an english-speaking forum. 😛

I want to see lower prices. The current speed is fine, but should be cheaper. Or at least boost up the upstream... that is going to be killer in the upcoming years.

I totally agree w/ everything you just said here.

In fact..........when you go to the FIOS site, everything you click on gives you this flash vid counting up to 100% as the video loads & says......."Watch this faster w/ FIOS" (or something like that).

Well, heck.......being that I've got 4mb down w/ Adelphia/TW I can barely read the #'s before the vid's playing........so I really can't say I have an issue w/ speed. (If anything, internet *latency* in general bothers me more than speed).

But the one shining light for FIOS that definitely can't be argued is their up speed. 2m on ANY package in their pricing vs. 384k on my cable setup is definitely something to consider.

And it'd be hard for me to justify *just* FIOS HSI as I'd lose the discount with either company (VZ *or* TW) as they give you an extra $5 on any 2nd service.

And lastly, the digging up the yard thing. My neighbor was definitely not happy w/ the digging they did.............and not pleased w/ how they elbowed halfway up her outside wall & plumbed thru the metal door on her cable box to get at her house's coax plumbing.

Decisions, decisions.......😉
