By the time you're old enough to drive, you should be well past the point of playing ding dong ditch... by about 10 years. It's not suprising that someone with the maturity level to do that type of thing also didn't have the maturity to properly handle a car. It wasn't the person chasing who killed them, they killed themselves.

Heh, if those kids were doing it to me and waking up myself or my daughter, I'd be tempted to chase after them too. gogo karma/darwin

Im from Gates, pretty much the next town over...my daughter also knew the girl that died 🙁
she is also going for her learners permit Friday...

This is also the third student my daughter knew that has died this year.

Lol. I did this when I was 6 years old. Never since.

A 17 year old doing it is not much different than a 17 year old playing chicken on the road with a car. A prank? Maybe, but one thats dangerous.

Seriously, the reason I'd consider ding dong ditch a bad thing. Especially with a group of older kids. Do you realize what burglars do when they want to rob a house? They play ding dong ditch to see if someone is home or not. Burglars which might be armed and harm my family. Especially 3 days in a row. With 5 of them? Yeah, I expect this reaction, and the result.

Yeah times have changed. In the afternoon when it's light it may be different, but after dark and all of a sudden you see 5 teens pull up and approach one's house; it changes the game in today's society with home invasions and gang shootings at the door step.

A citizen could feel these 'kids' just picked the wrong house, but if they believe they are going to be shot at or robbed what do they do?

What the hell is ding dong ditch? I've never heard it called that.

Who calls it ding dong ditch?

I've heard of knock knock zoom zoom and doorbell dixie but never ding dong ditch

Those are all the policitally correct names of the game. It was generally referred to something else and we did it on foot.

The teens deaths are tragic, but they should have had more foresight than to think folks would not react to this. If I heard five people coming to my door unexpectedly late at night, my first reaction is to retrieve my handgun. Doesn't matter where you live, that sort of situation is very frightening.

Really? I've never heard it called anything else 😕.

Maybe it's a regional thing like Pop vs Soda vs Coke, duck-duck-goose vs duck-duck-grey-duck (those crazy Minnesotans), drinking-fountain vs bubbler (those crazy Milwaukeeans)

Never once heard it called that here on the east coast, it's always been Knock-knock Zoom-zoom and that's what I'll vote for when the inevitable thread/poll for this is posted.

teenagers shouldn't be allowed to drive with other teenagers.

A lot of states don't allow kids to drive with more than one teenage passenger for the first year or so, and I think that makes a lot of sense. As the quantity of teenagers increases, the level of intelligence decreases.

Limiting them to two in a car also limits the number that can kill themselves in one shot.

Apparently ya'll believe that death is a suitable punishment for annoying teenage pranks? If that's the case, then where do i sign the ballot that endorses torture tactics for moronic bulletin-board posts?

Death can be the consequences of stupidity... you know that as a teenager. If you end up dieing as a consequences, you fully knew it going in.. why should we have sympathy?

it's not the prank that killed her, it's not the person who chased her, either. it's probably the fact that the group of teenagers were driving away hysterically and lost control. another case for raising the age of driving to 20.

Hmmmmm....back when we were kids, we ran, instead of drove, when doing the ding dong ditch thing...

However, when we got old enough to drive, we found better things to do with our time like cruising Whittier Blvd or hanging out in the parking lot of someplace...

Sucks 🙁

I agree with others, I always played on foot, never knew people would do it with cars too...

What do you expect nowadays? Kids have cell phones and cars and expensive shoes. Why would they actually run somewhere when they can jump in a car. Kids today don't know what it is like to freely roam neighborhoods and be real kids. Now they have play dates and hang out at the mall. Man it' sad. I want my kids to be able to play outside and know that it's time to come home when the street lights come on. I want them to have the fun that I had as a kid playing baseball in the street, trekking through the creeks, going to the park without my parents. Riding my bike without 20lbs of protective gear on.

I did this kind of crap as a kid all the time. Though we used a different term for it. We also would hide under the creek bridge and throw handfuls of moss up in the air onto the road when cars came by. We stopped doing that after we hit a police car. :\
