i might be wrong, but this seems alot like tabloids trying to make something out of nothing.
Hmm....The Daily Mail and the Telegraph are two very conservative papers. (btw, I am close friends with one of the author's mother! I almost fell out of my chair reading his byline.) They aren't pro-Obama rags at all, so this stuff is nothing really. And the Daily Mail is often one of the shrillist shills for the right wing in England. The Telegraph is usually rationally right wing, if that's possible.
On the other hand, on many issues, Obama and Brown might well be at odds. I suspect Obama is politically where Blair was 10 years ago. Brown has always been a fairly conservative Labourite.
At any rate, I think Brown and Blair and Bush should all be hanged together. Preferably on lampposts in Baghdad.

DM is NOT conservative this has been proven time and again. Anybody that frequents their site knows they are not conservative. You've got to be trolling.
I swear you people will do anything to justify your leaders' actions.
Besides, simply saying the source is a conservative newspaper (even if it were), does nothing to discount the facts presented. Typical failure at reasoning.

Obama should completely sever relations with the British. That country is the most despicable nation that has ever existed on the planet.
It's run by Tory sympathizers. It's economics/business writer is very conservative.
As for the Daily Mail not being conservative, uhm, well, one of the lead writers also writes for the Spectator, and they were cooing over McCain on their editorial pages. I admit I read them rarely these days, so it's possible they've toned down their rhetoric. But, yes, calling them conservative might not be as accurate as calling them trash. LOL! Many Brits would agree with you. I've been wanting to go and stay as a Permanent Alien Resident in England, but I'd have to put most of my money into a bank there, so I haven't done that yet. (I'm still thinking on it.) BUT, when I tell my English friends about this cockamamy idea, they say: "And you want to move to England exactly why?" 🙂
One of the reasons the English have so much governmental secrecy is because between the three major parties, any of them would cut the throats of the other party if in power. Of course, the House of Lords is a cesspool of lobbying money, privilege to excess, and downright bribery. And Ministers are like mini-kings, barely held accountable until they are ousted by elections.

Oh yes, because countries like Iran, Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Russia, and China are on such a higher plain of moral superiority to England. No, England is by no means perfect, but give me a break. There are certain public courtasies that you extend the leaders of foreign countries when they come to visit. It may be old fashioned and offend modern liberal sesibilites, but that's the way it's done. How would the Obamaphiles feel if the roles were reversed and Brown dissed Obama. This kinda stuff may be trite, but it doesn't help 'improve our standing and respect with the rest of the world' like Obama promissed he would do.

Despite making a huge mountain out of a molehill (tenative joint press conference canceled because of the blizzard), perhaps the OP is correct and this IS "smarter diplomacy." Gordon Brown came over here to pump up his personal reputation by tying himself to Obama. Perhaps this is something Obama doesn't particualry want, that he would rather deal with Brown's probable sucessor than continue the Bush/Blair/Brown alliance.
Brown got the very rare privilege of an address to the joint houses of Congress, as well as much of a day with Obama, both of which gives Obama plasible deniability as to any slight.

Yes, those countries are on a higher plain of superiority. The British Empire was a monstrous entity which slaughtered more people than any other evil force in the world. HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WERE SLAUGHTERED FOR BRITISH MATERIALISM. Stop denying a holocaust.
And you know what? History is coming back to bite them. The British tortured Obama's grandfather. He has no love for such a sick government. This is the president who will redefine American foreign relations for a new century.
