apparently I know how water pipes work.
It was tricky for people used to playing games. The pipe didn't snap into place so wasn't sure it would work. But it did.

So glad to get confirmation that I'm not a bot living in a simulation. Maybe a human being simulated by a bot running in a simulation but that still makes me pretty sophisticated.

Staked my claim on my username.
Fun fact, my username is the product of a morning of frustration: trying to find a Yahoo handle that was even remotely interesting for me... all were taken. Driven to despair, I asked myself what is the first word I could think that most humans would not pick for their user name. The physics course from the previous day came to mind - Coercivity

Ever since that day this handle has served me well, readily available in most if not all places on the internet.

So what are the remaining classic forums? I can name Overclock dot net, HardForum (HardOCP), TechPowerUp, XtremeSystems (Which was back but now it is 404 again), and Tom's Hardware. Something newer/not classic would be Level1Techs. Most of the others I can think about (CPU World, Vogons, VCFed, WinRaid) were either smaller or niche. Anything else?

I was on Sharkyforums all the time back in the day. They used to have weekly CPU & RAM prices.

Not that great, but we did go through quite a bit of physics and math, 99% of it is lost on me after 2 decades of working in a completely unrelated field. Maybe my kid will go into science/engineering and will force me to go through it all again.
In your case, you are intelligent and educated enough to keep up. My kid left me eating his academic dust. 3 degrees in 4 years, all summa cum laude. a couple of compTIA certs. The fastest typist I've ever seen in person. This is me when he tries to explain code, or get me past a hurdle in making unsupported apps work in a Linux distro -

Thefpsreview forums, user avatars are not allowed? I can't see them anywhere , even with Adblock turned off, hm. :smirkcat: I'm not registered yet, but logically the lack of a user avatar has nothing to do with it. Why would user avatars be any kind of visual problem or unnecessary distraction for any forum.

I think they don't use avatars, there's no option to set one in the user section either.
There are no user avatars, although most well-known old or newer forums have classic user avatars.Something will always bother someone, unless they must stick to minimalistic forum design. Of course, animated avatars are crap and an eyesore.

Probably because it simplifies moderation overheads is my guess.

-I'm there too but the whole "need approval from a mod" for every. single. post. is a bit much.

Maybe I'm just not past the new user limitations but it was just too much free-speech-absolutism for me to handle.

That's an issue I'm still trying to work out, it's only suppose to do it for the 1st post but sometimes the group upgrade does not happen automatically. It's for stopping spammers.

I've actually gotten used to approval requirements like that. Running any forum thesedays has become extremely difficult what with the bot hordes etc.

Avatars are now turned on... though.. they may have been nuked from the display template, will have to check that.

I'm adding everyone from here into the Lounge group permissions which should stop the post approval requirements - I'm pretty much the only one running the moderation and it's usually a nuke 2-3 spammers a day sort of thing - since the spammers significantly outnumber the volume of new sign ups... it works(ed) fairly well. Added a welcome message asking for a human reply to speed things along.

That's what I thought, it wouldn't really make sense if classic avatars weren't allowed or were banned, etc.Now we can sleep more peacefully, but also have a few light beers. :beermug::smirkcat:
