It's too bad what has happened to Tom's Hardware over the years. From clickbait headlines written by fake tech journalists to it now being overrun with AI generated slop content.

Thomas Pabst must be rolling in his grave.

-I'm there too but the whole "need approval from a mod" for every. single. post. is a bit much.

Maybe I'm just not past the new user limitations but it was just too much free-speech-absolutism for me to handle.

That's an issue I'm still trying to work out, it's only suppose to do it for the 1st post but sometimes the group upgrade does not happen automatically. It's for stopping spammers.

You could be right, I could see them try to do that.

If they really want to do that they should at very least merge this forum into their forum but I don't imagine they would go through that effort.

This is the last forum i post on ..... when its gone... i guess there is nothing good left :(

I used to post on comp.arch back in the 90s. There has never been and never will be anything like it - a single place where some of the people who were part of inventing the microprocessor as we know it, inventing RISC, inventing the internet (sorry not you Al Gore!) were congregated, or at least cross posted occasionally from other newsgroups. I have no idea if something like complete archives of comp.arch exist but if anyone wanted to write a book about the history of computing they could probably write a pretty good one just from the stories people who were involved or at least present posted there over the years.

The only other CPU/process tech type forum I'm active on is RWT. A number of comp.arch refugees posted there in its early days, but over the years they've mostly gone away. A few still remain, Linus is always lurking and will pop up in threads that interest him. Problem is RWT's UI is straight out of the 90s so Gen Xers like me might be OK with it but not everyone.

Unless eek's new board comes to pass it sounds like everyone here is going to disperse to the winds as there's no agreement on where to go next. I'll just have to get my fix of this type of discussion at RWT I guess.

I noticed the Editor In Chief of Toms that wrote the "Just Buy It" Nvidia paid article back in 2018 has recently been replaced.

I'm sure there are other shakeups happening to further the enshittification of tech sites.

Can't wait to get into AI generated technology deep dives. It will be the best way to get tech information since it's generated by AI running on the tech I'm reading about.

I'll move around like the early 2000s. TPU, OCforums, Reddit, and Spaghetti Monster help me; Youtube comments 💀

No one else is providing their reddit handle, so I assume you will all 👻me. Good for you! 🫡

So what are the remaining classic forums? I can name Overclock dot net, HardForum (HardOCP), TechPowerUp, XtremeSystems (Which was back but now it is 404 again), and Tom's Hardware. Something newer/not classic would be Level1Techs. Most of the others I can think about (CPU World, Vogons, VCFed, WinRaid) were either smaller or niche. Anything else?
Hardwarecanucks Forum is ok, and quite active from what i see.

Purch(Future) owns all of them. They do WORSE things. I think it was GN that pointed out where Nvidia was paying them off to write articles. Like that JUST BUY Tomshardware article.

Why not migrate to a new tech forum site that's just getting off the ground with actual hardware benchmarks and other industry insider info? Such as... Thefpsreview.com

Outside of that. I do run the DC discord as well as a DC forum for the DC guys here at teamanandtech.org.

Is there a way we can takeover AT Forum from its parent company 🤣
I did send a query into the Future general council email box asking if the assets were for sale. They have not yet replied.
Being able to migrate the tech content forums would be great if possible. Could be a tall order for anyone created a new forums site but would probably be the best option.

Two other forums that I think many here already know about and frequent but if not, both of which are active:

Hard Forum (aka the forums for the late HOCP site)

and the fps review forums (many former hocp reviewers):

Oh Hai.

The FPS Review owner & hardware enthusiast type here. Founded the place after [H] closed and hired most of the reviewers to make a go of it. The site is my retirement plan for when I get tired of my day job - not going to be selling out to the conglomerates. [H], AT and TheInquirer were my go-tos of yesteryear that I cherish the memories of.

Our forums never really got off the ground - we're auto posting all of our content into the relevant sections and have a few dozen regular denizens. I'd certainly welcome the AT community if you guys wanted to move in, along with making housekeeping/organizational adjustments/improvements as I'd love to grow the community. I'm running Xenforo just like this place.

We do have an off topic section as well - right now a 90 day aged account triggers admission to it, but I can waive that for you guys. For those that prefer the white theme, there is one available in the theme switcher.
