So I've gotta buy another 10 lbs of whey.

You can customize the protein to be exactly how you want it. I usually order unflavored protein and then purchase the flavor packs unmixed so I am not stuck with one flavor for my whole order. Unflavored whey also gives you more control on perfecting the taste of smoothies and protein shakes.

EAS cheap protein is fvcking awful stuff, I cannot speak highly enough about not buying it. You'll choke down that feces substrate and thank God for the day you're finished it.

As always, I gotta recommend dpsnutrition.com. Every time I order they ship that day and their shipping is cost; they make no money on it. If you buy $100 or 120+ you get a shirt, woot. Anyway, buy american whey dutch chocolate protein powder. It's $60 or $65 for 10lbs and is precisely what the doctor ordered.

crt's idea is good, I looked a while ago for unflavored protein and it's very very hard to find.

off-topic: Although I don't remember who told me this or where I read it, but I was under the impression that it's best to avoid whey protein that isn't 100% isolate. A lot of stuff has concentrate mixed in there.

Can anyone comment on this? It could be bullshit for all I know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whey_protein

Whey protein typically comes in three major forms: concentrate, isolate, and hydrolysate.

* Concentrates contain a low level of fat and cholesterol but, in general, have higher levels of bioactive compounds, and carbohydrates in the form of lactose ? they are 29%-89% protein by weight.

* Isolates are processed to remove the fat, and lactose, but are usually lower in bioactive compounds as well ? they are 90%+ protein by weight. Both of these types are mild to slightly milky in taste.

* Hydrolysates are predigested, partially hydrolyzed whey proteins that, as a consequence, are more easily absorbed, but their cost is generally higher.[8] Highly-hydrolysed whey may be less allergenic than other forms of whey.[10] They are very bitter in taste.

If you have problems digesting dairy or are eating a LOT of protein powder every day, the lactose and fat in whey concentrate can make you fart. If you are particularly good at digesting lactose, or the farts don't bother you, the concentrate is cheaper because it takes less processing to produce.

Been ordering the same size and flavor from the same site for about 9 months now. I like the flavor, mixes well with PB and blueberries too.

No complaints about taste or effect. Quick shipping every time.

+1

HN, I've gone through 10lbs of the chocolate flavor from MGN and don't have any problems with it. It's comparable to ON's chocolate whey (I prefer ON's but this is close enough and cheaper) and I found it better tasting and mixing than Dymatize's Elite rich chocolate whey. Just to note those are the only three brands and flavors I have ever tried.

Vitaglo's service sucks. If you want Optimum Nutrition, buy at Bodybuilding.com and pricematch to Vitaglo. Either way, $7/lb is a lot to pay for a whey concentrate blend.

dpsnutrition is usually pretty good too. There was an offer on yahoo from a while ago that had 10 lbs. of ONS for like 60 bucks.

True Protein certainly is cheaper than ON for whey protein concentrate, but how good are the flavors?

What's wrong with their service? I've been ordering whey from Vitaglo for a few years now and have never had an issue.

I have no problems with EAS, ON, ATW etc.

one thing I can't stand is ON casein but that is the only type of casein I've tried but its truly revolting

My most recent purchase was a 10lb jug of America Whey Dutch Chocolate. Pretty cheap and doesn't taste bad at all.

 that's what I get. Cytosport I have tried, too, and it's superb from dpsnutrition.com but not quite as cheap.

I am not a fan of ON that much. I bought some ON strawberry flavor back in 2000 and it was by far the most horrendous sh*t ever, even worse than the protein they used to have in the early 90's that required an industrial blender and possibly even dynamite to mix into anything. This strawberry flavor was like the intestinal scrapings of a cadaver ground together with goiters and then some overpowering strawberry concentrate put in to try and make it potable, which it never was. I believe strawberry is a hard flavor to make right in protein, but there was no excuse for this. Like felating Satan and having to swallow.

American DC from dps is me favorite, of those I've tried. The wifey uses the buckets for her plant nursery when I'm done.

I found the strawberry to be a bit too artificial tasting, but not difficult to drink. Now the ON Cookies and Cream flavor, on the other hand - that was just awful.

How does the flavor compare with Banana or Chocolate ON?

Strawberry flavored mixes are nasty and always will be. There is no hope for them.

Strawberry Banana ON is pretty damn good, IMHO. Goes good in yogurt too.
