So I've been driving around in a brand-new car uninsured...

Arrghh...my dad told me he'd set up a policy under his account with State Farm...I'd just pay him back. I thought it was all a done deal. Then I get a frantic call from the dealer saying my insurance is NOT setup...I think my dad messed up the paperwork or something but in any case I wasn't eligible under his plan. Time for me to get my own policy. At least the rate wasn't too bad--$680/6 months. But my dad could've gotten better.

Anyways, here are some daytime pics of my new car:

uh...how did they let you drive off the lot without insurance?

each time i bought my car they called the insurance company to verify.

most states.. you have an automatic 30 days of coverage before you actually put the car on a policy... just an fyi

Only if you have an existing policy on the car that you are replacing.

Each time I bought a car they never called my insurance company. They just asked me for my insurance company's name and policy number. My insurance company gives me 30 days to inform them of the new car purchase. Of course, I let them know within a day or so.

Nope, we bought a new car and didn't get rid of any of our existing cars but we still had 30 days.

fixed for me 🙂

i drive it, parents own the car (though i might in the future 🙂)

Rock on fellow dubber

I guess I would technically have to change my original post, as I'm a driver right now, still owe the bank some dough. It will be "mine" eventually 😀

But.... you had an insurance policy, the OP apparantly did not. If he got in an accident with the car, who would be insuring him?

Hot damn that's a sexy car. 🙂 I pay $726/6mos and I have an 03 Neon! =/ I think it's time to switch to Progressive or something. I'm still under my mom's plan, but I'm the principal driver, have multi-vehicle discount, home-owner's discount (mom), and others.

I love the new Passats. Congrats. My 2 uncles and a friend have the new generation Passats. Truely comfort machines. Anyways, 680/6 months with full coverage? That's not too bad. How old are you, how is the record?

I actually wasn't allowed to leave the lot until my insurance company had faxed over temporary proof of coverage. So yeah, I had to buy a policy the same day I got my car.

Then again, the only insurance I'd had before that was on my motorcycle, so I might be an exception to the rule.

maybe. they called my inusurance company, told them i was getting this new car today and they faxed over temp insurance info. i figured i had to have nsurance before i could drive it off the lot anyway.
