Since about the middle of august I have been trying to bulk up, and I've gained about 8-9lbs so far. I previously was 179lbs and am between 188-189 now. I am eating LIKE CRAP. I'm talking about fast food like 3 times a week or so, hamburgers, hotdogs, lasagna, spaghetti, tv dinners, hot pockets, eating sweets, etc. I'm also taking 2-3 protein shakes a day, as well as a Celltech supplement.

I'm obviously not as cut in my belly area, but i've still got my abs underneath the little blubber starting to appear on my belly. I still have abs showing, just not nearly as much as before.

Before I started bulking I was beching 225lbs like 4 times. I did it 8 times last week and did 235lbs 6 times this past monday. I then did incline dumbell presses w/85lb dumbells and did 8 reps, 2 sets in a row, which I also had never done. usually I would get like 5 of them on the second set. So all is going well. My shoulder presses are getting back up there too, as I did 80lb dumbells 7 times last week, and I plan on getting it 8 times no problem this week.

I plan on stop trying to bulk up once I can bench 245lbs 8 times. I think I'll be about 195lbs by the time I do that, which is ideal for me bulking up now ,then I will go back on a lean cycle and just get ripped up.

Are you playing sports or something, because otherwise, that is unneccessary and in a lot of ways unhealthy?

I play recreational sports, nothing serious. I haven't done many sports this year though since i broke my ankle playing ball in january and its healed but I'm mentally not ready at this point.

I'm not too worried about it being unhealthy. I'm as healthy as can be according to my doctors. I don't always eat this way, trust me. I also eat fruits and drink milk and eat vegetables, so I do eat healthy stuff as well.

I just have always been skinny and never been able to gain weight. I just lift because I like the challenge and reward for getting stronger. It's just fun.

dude, you better start eating right or it doesnt matter how cut and ripped you are; you'll still be unhealthy.

I gained a few pounds too, which I always thought was impossible as I've been hovering around 130 for the past 4 years. Apparently I'm almost 140 now, but everyone says I look even skinnier. Dont know where it all went.

dude, I dont care who you are, fast food 3x a week is not good for you. You said it yourself: "I am eating LIKE CRAP" Why would you eat like crap? You could run 100 miles a week and still have high cholesterol from that.

You have no clue what kind of fast food I eat every week nor what I get from the places. I eat chipotle, polla rico (one of those spanish chicken places that gives you chicken, rice, salads, beans ... oh so unhealthy), mcdonalds (no fries just 2 double cheeseburgers, I want all the protein I can get, subway, and a few others.

if I were eating a #2 supersized 4 times a week, then yea I would say its pretty bad as well because of the large amounts of fries and mayo or whatever is on it.

eating like crap, to me, means just not watching what you eat and not worrying about any extra calories or food in general.

hamburgers, hotdogs, lasagna, spaghetti

These don't have to be unhealthy.

But yeah, normal spaghetti with a typical sauces (with high fructose corn syrup) is like the ultimate fat building dish.

Switch to a whole grain noodle with a sauce with less sweetners, or the very least with cane sugar instead of HFCS. HFCS inhibits your ability to reach a sense of fullness, no matter how full you actually are.

And make the sauce extra meaty with lean beef.

That's a much better body building dish. Because you're trying to get muscle, not fat right?

I'm not worried about getting fatter, at all, because I know I have the discipline to lose it as soon as I decide I want to. I have tried to gain "good" weight before, and I just had a lot of problems gaining any weight at all, so now I'm just trying to gain weight ... good and bad.

I have no problems leaning up at all. I could get my 8pack back in 6-8 weeks easily if I wanted to.

Trust me, I have much more discipline than most people on these boards :).

EDIT: i see you edited your post as well. I typically put A LOT of meat in my sauce, I'm talkin about a TON. So much that my sauce you can't even "pour" onto your spaghetti and rather you need to scoop it onto your sauce.

I'm only going to lose the fatty part ;)

It should be easier to get cut up when I'm heavier since I will have more muscle than I did last time I got cut up, and the more muscle you have the more calories you burn.

I just hate doing cardio, its so boring heh.

Yes, ****** running in the offseason svcks balls. Theres nothing to do but go in an oval (at a track) or run on sidewalks/streets. I have been doing this whole running thing 15 years and counting (soccer and track), and find it pritty hard to lose the stomache fat from just running a few miles every day. You must do situps or something to excersize the stomach muscles, do them while watching tv because the time will fly by. Get an mp3 flash player, doesnt even need to be that big, 1gig is enough, and listen to a few songs while you excersize. Remember, longer duration for weight loss (also tones), speed for muscle growth.

The healthy, slow weight-loss strategy is to eat healthy in many small portions and excersize inbetween lunch and dinner. This will lose 2-3lb a week. The less healthy, fast weight-loss strategy is to wake up and excersize, eat a medium meal after, excersize again and only eat like an apple or salad (little-no dressing) and take some vitamens (good one, fda approved) for the things you miss out on. This will let you drop 5-10lb depending on your motabalism per week. Also, a cardnal rule of dieting, never eat or drink (cept water) something before you go to bed, leave 2 hours inbetween eating and sleeping.

Thats what I did when I had to lose weight for track, worked out pritty well.

PS good luck on your weight loss, keep us updated.

I'm losing weight as I'm not training properly due an injury via Gymnastics :(. Sucks not being able to train properly. I can BP and do pull ups due to my injury. On a side note my BP is getting jack up a lot and my pull ups are solid :)

Just don't make a habit of eating too much crappy food :)

A few of the best bulking exercises are the squat and the deadlift. Most people who ignore their legs can put on a solid amount of muscle, shortly, just by doing these exercises and eating a ton of protein.

The 80lb Shoulder Presses are great! I do my working sets of 10 on 60-65s.

Great job on your bulk and congratulations!

I still can't do deadlifts because of my ankle :(. I just don't have the full range of motion that I would like to have when I bend down. Either that, or I'm just mentally not ready to do so.

part of the reason I broke my ankle I believe was due to me doing deadlifts. The day I broke my ankle, at 6:30 I was doing deadlifts ... 375lbs x 5, 5 sets of that. Then later that night I played basketball, and at 10:45 I broke my left ankle, and sprained my right one, at the same time, landing on 2 different peoples feet.

I really feel that my ankles gave out on me because they were just so weak from doing the deadlifts earlier in the day. so now you can see why I kind of have a mental barrier on that.

As for squats, this past weekend was actually the first time I did my legs hardcore since my injury in january. I was only squatting 205lbs x 5, 5 sets of that. I am not worried though because I plan on that going up in weight REAL quick. I mean its been over 9 months since I've squatted.
