Do you have any reason to doubt that his war experiences are what fucked him up in the head?

I think that Chris Kyle was an asshole and had a savior complex before even joining, and that is what caused him ultimately to join. That, coupled with the fact he was good at his job and in the "right place", put him as a very effective sniper. And, having to make the choice of shooting a 10 year old you know was brainwashed into attacking troops or watching your friends die is a hard one to make and will fuck up anyone.

I can understand him being compelled into continuing the narrative that he was a savior of some people while suffering from extreme PTSD. The guy was a legend in Iraq, he might have felt the need to be a legend at home.

no doubt about that. Killing someone from a distance and seeing them die/head explode probably wasn't easy to forget. But serviing his country for 4 years with a bounty on your head by the iraqis too. Call it what you want, but he wasnt the same person coming back from there. well find out next month in the trial for his murder why the "friend" killed him and the other guy.

I've known more than a few vets who could not even talk about their time in war, including my father and uncle. I'm sure not going to sit in judgement of any of them, or speak ill of them when they have passed on. We will never have to know how it was and I am grateful for that.

Unfortunately, many of these posters here that have never been in that situation seem to be perfectly able to describe what's wrong with him.

Um, I think you're missing something here.

People who have been in a war and seen death from both ends, yes, generally do not like to talk about it.

This guy killed more than anyone else in US military history (allowing exceptions for stuff like 'the guy that flew the Enola Gay' and whatnot) and couldn't STOP talking about it. And not just about the acts, but how everyone over there is evil and yadda yadda yadda.

What's interesting is that only the Ventura story can be directly linked to something Kyle said or wrote himself. Everything else is based on what other people said he said. You know, "secondhand" stories?

Source? Everything I've read indicated that the Katrina and gas station shooting stories are both in his autobiography.

I have his auto biography and have read it and there is no mention of him shooting people during Katrina or gas station shooting stories in the book.

So, a number of people in this thread that wholeheartedly support the pathological liar occupying the White House are calling out a murdered former SEAL as a liar.

You just can't make this shit up.

Or is it more people couldn't stop asking about it.

Why don't you actually bother to read one of the transcripts of his interviews instead of just going off what other people or the press are saying about him.

so . . . would you be happier if he WASN'T lying about killing looters?
So he tried to admit guilt to imaginary murders? That's rather interesting. Does that make him a better or worse human being than OJ Simpson?

American Sniper was an absolutely horrible movie. Whoever wrote the script needs to be shot by a sniper just because that would seem fitting. Duncan and Ari nail it when describing some of the things wrong with that movie:

is it better to lie about a murder or to actually commit murder?

Dude, being a pathological liar is a pre-requisite for occupying the White House...Your side has proven that...

"I am NOT a crook!"

“A few months ago I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that’s true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not. As the Tower board reported, what began as a strategic opening to Iran deteriorated, in its implementation, into trading arms for hostages.”

"Read my lips! NO More Taxes!"

“We found the weapons of mass destruction [in Iraq]. We found biological laboratories.”

It's not just the "Dumb-o-Crats" who lie while in that office...the Republitards also lie...and are damned good at it.

So it turns out that Chris Kyle is....

Which might be relevant if he were running for office, but he's not.

He's being noted for his ability as a sniper. If that was lie, get back to me, I'll be interested to hear it.

I read it also. Just checked and there is no mention of the gas station incident or the Katrina thing. I just recently finished Luttrell's Service book and he mentioned the gas station incident:

Chris was minding his own business, fueling his pickup truck at a gas station, when he found himself at gunpoint. Two men holding pistols demanded his truck. Law enforcement will usually advise you to give in to the criminal in a situation like this. And that’s good advice. But Chris took another route . Very calmly and coolly, he sized up which of the two was handling his pistol more comfortably. He put his hands up and told them he was going to reach into the truck to get his keys. Then his hand went under his coat. From a waistband holster, he pulled his Colt 1911. Swinging the pistol under his left armpit, he gave each robber two .45-caliber Hydra-Shok hollow-points to the chest. By the time the cops responded to the 911 call from the terrified lady who had locked herself in a car behind Chris’s truck, the matter was settled. Elapsed time: about ten seconds. The service station’s security cameras caught the whole thing.

It seems that you have very poor reading comprehension or you WANTED to make that assumption. I have read it 15 different places and not one said those stories were in his book.

The larger takeaway from the movie is that Clint Eastwood wasn't acting and really is a crazy old guy who yells at empty chairs.

I saw the movie a week ago. Local area has 2 theatres and with 5 shows a day; both were sold out for Fri->Sunday over the past two weekends. Shows were sold out at a minimum on one show in advance.

Empty chairs not found.:\

On the movie itself; it is a movie; yes, they embellished some areas, ignored some areas; but if the intent was to show a person that went over to Iraq, saw things, did things and it impacted him afterwards; the movie succeeded.

It exposed something that people were not fully aware of on how war impacts vets. And with Iraq/Afghanistan and Vietnam; the impact of women and kids vs professional soldiers is great.

like CPA said. the parts of the military were confirmed. The other parts? yeah..take with a grain of salt...

IF anyone sat on the super dome and shot 30 people it would have been in the news..

It also would had been a crime.

These will be the same people who will be voting for Hillary in 2016... well because she came under sniper fire from a coward in Bosnia.
