My sister wants to get her son a Wii for Christmas and I was telling her that AFAIK these are still really hard to get.

Am I right or wrong on this one??

I've seen them here in Anchorage Alaska, but it's spotty at best. I'd say if you want one for a Christmas gift, buy it now. They're not going to have a price drop by Christmas, so you won't lose money.

Ok, thanks. Time to do some leg work.

BTW what extras will she need to get him .. how many additional wii-motes, nunchucks etc.

I would guess at best he would have 2 other kids playing with him at a time but maybe more.

if you are expecting extra players, you will of course need extra controllers :)

Get the wiiplay game, comes with a disc of a bunch of small party type games along with an extra controller. Then just need to buy a chuck for 2 sets of controllers and then buy how ever more you want.

I think it would not be hard to get if you get to a store like Target or Toys R Us early on a Sunday, because they hold them until Sunday so they can put it in their ad. It is still not to the point where you can just walk any store that sells them any time you want and buy one. I've never seen one in stock at any store I've visited in the last year - but I haven't had to go to a store early in the morning to try to get one, because I pre-ordered mine from Amazon.com 2 months before it came out.

well yes they are damn near impossible to get now. ive even look online and everyone is sold out online and in store.

That being said if she DOES come across one id say get a few extra wii-motes and nun chucks. and also she should get some flash memory I think it takes SD cards but with only 512mb of onboard memory that extra space is a must. also if she gets one she should send in for the 4 free wiimote skins. they are free so i mean why not.

My wife and I are looking to pick one up as a goofy house warming gift to ourselves. I was hoping they were easier to find by now, oh well.

meh, 512MB is plenty unless you plan on spending a bundle on VC games. Even then, you can't play off the SD card which is a HUGE oversight IMO. I'm still dumbfounded on why.

I agree on all counts. 512 MB SHOULDN'T be enough, but it is because Nintendo's online stuff sucks. I want demos. :(

oh, ive heard alot of ppl are running out of space and using multiple cards. Its stupid that Nintendo refuses to release an add on HD or something.

Using multiple cards? o_O

I could download the entire VC library to a 2GB card without any trouble.

I've also never seen a Wii in stock except the day I stood in line outside of Best Buy for 3 hours on a Sunday.

I asked this same question recently to a guy from Gamestop. He said that he expects them to continue getting harder to find as Christmas gets closer because they tend to only have them in stock for about 2-3 days and only get more in every 2-3 weeks. Being that was the case, I called around to several stores regularly on a daily basis until I found one and bought it.

im surprised they are still so hard to get. i figured people would realize after a year that the wii really is not that great.

I don't have an interest in picking up this system but do find the scarcity to be interesting. Every time I'm in any store that would carry the Wii I always take a look to see how many are in stock.

I have never seen one.

I guess the only answer is many people believe that they are worth the money :)

I have one and before playing Mario, IMO, it was not worth it. But now after playing Mario, I think they are going to be even harder to find :)

thats only an opionin alot of pl have stated how much they not only like the wii but LOVE it. I think its awsome that nintendo tries to step outside the norm. sometimes it fail miserably (virtual boy) and sometimes it rock the socks off (The Dual Screen) Obviously they did something right since they are kicking M$ and Sonys ass in sales. who gives a flying flunk if the graphics arnt as good as them its games that count. and one thing Nin. reknowned for is super strong 1st party games. I think we will see a good handful of games in the next quarter.

And another thing that it has going for it is its priced for an average family, easy enough to setup and play for an average fam, and the games are directed towards playing with friends and family. Its interactive, multiple player based. How is that not good? I think nintendo hit the nail on the head I just wish it wasnt SO gimmicy. I know thats the hook wot that controller but we will see how thing turn out.
