if you still dont like guinness after the next taste test, pour half of it into a glass and then dump a jameson whiskey shot in the glass and chug it all down.
why would i waste whiskey on beer?

Guinness is by far my favorite beer, but I still don't really like the taste. Beer just tastes disgusting to me. Guinness is the most tolerable though; it's smooth and not terribly overwhelming.

guinness is 5x better off the tap. Off a bottle I like a New Castle for the casual beer.

Gulden Draak for life!

Guinness is OK, not the best, not the worst as far as I am concerned.

I prefer liquor but when I drink a beer, anymore, it's something like Youngs Double Chocolate, a Sammy smith oatmeal, something like that. Guinness is a solid beer, maybe the best of the 'consumer' brands, but if you want a real good tasting beer, go for one of those two. I refuse to drink stuff like busch lite etc, I drink for the flavor, not to get smashed, so YMMV with these beers.

The widget cans are as good, if not better, than tap.

Check out St. Peter's Port, Mackeson XXX Stout (especially if you like Chocolate stouts) and Fuller's London Porter.

Those are great beers in addition to Sammy Smith and Youngs double Chocolate.

Rogue Chocolate Stout is heavenly as well, but incredibly expensive anymore. They've really jacked up the prices the last year or two.

The problem is, I can't find any of these beers around here. We have one bar that has some of them, but they are so expensive, I rarely go.

My area sucks. :(

i thought you only drank ice water because the alcohol you tried to drink spilled on the bar and started smoking.

Guinness is hard to drink, but it doesn't taste bad. MGD is my fav so far (although I haven't had many beers). Can't stand Bud/Coors light.

The taste of ass in the bottle has nothing to do with your cold, it's because Guiness tastes like ass. Not a good beer to start out on. Beer is an acquired taste, and Guiness even more so I suppose.

The Sam Smith, Young's Double Chocolate, and Mackeson XXX are some of my favorites. If you're into the heavy dark beers, you might also try Xingu, Dogfish Head, or once in awhile you can find a XXXXX Stout brewed by the Pike brewery in Seattle (makers of the Kilt lifter) that's pretty decent.

I'm not a big fan of Guinness. I was actually surprised at how bland it was because I hear everyone raving about it. I think oatmeal and cream stouts are a lot tastier.

If you're just getting into beer, go with something lighter. You can't just skip straight to something thick like Guinness and expect to like it. I know the saying is kind of cliche but beer really is an acquired taste.

If you don't like bitter beers, I wouldn't suggest getting any porters or most most darker beers. If you like a maltier (sweeter) flavor, you might want to try some Belgian beers.

And if you can't find any decent light beers around you, order some online.

you have to acquire a taste for dark beer gradually. it's like doing crack before coke. you have to get there slowly....

Dogfish Head Chicory Stout is very good. Although a little overcarbonated for my likes. The carbonation kind of kills the smoothness of it. But still good flavor none the less.

If you are on the west coast, try and chase down Stone Brewery's (they do Arrogant Bastard Ale) Smoked Porter. That's a very good dark brew.

So, not to bump super old threads or anything, but interesting factoid, as a homebrewer...

BREW magazine did an article on stouts and brewing techniques used by popular commercial stouts. Guinness is actually not even a stout anymore, it is actually a light lager with flavoring added after the fact, hence the super watery mouthfeel. How people can say it tastes thick is beyond me, the mouthfeel kills guinness for me, so nasty.

If you are looking for some good darker brews, I highly recommend sammy smith oatmeal stout, mackeson xxx stout, and for something completely different, Stone smoked porter is great as well. All are very different styles and deserve a look

Irish carbomb ftw. Shot of irish whiskey+half pint of guinness, mix and drink. Just drink fast, cause if you wait, woe to you.
