It's pretty crappy practice to get a deal off the hot deals forums here, and then 2 weeks later try to unload the item in the FS/FT forum.

The deal deals are common enough, but I have seen plenty of other items that were more unique come up for sale... Usually with some bogus story which just reeked of either "I bought this with the sole intention of making money off it" or "I bought this and then a week later realized I had no need for it, so now I'll try to sell it for a profit."

Nothing WRONG with doing it but it is still a little shady. Especially if ATHD was your source.

Edit: PS, I actually sold a free-i-pod on here, but I had the decency to tell the guy where I got it from... although no, I did not price it at $0. :)

1) "capitalism".
2) Why don't you just tell the buyer to go to the store and get one at the same price? OH.. the sale is over. TOO BAD. THEY LOSE.
3) There is no FS/FT rule that says your profit must be within a certain proportion to the cost of the item.

It's not bad practice, it's smart investing. If you're still selling it cheaper than it can be purchased for, how is that wrong? 99% of the time the product is just as new as the ones in the store... just opened to test.

It's called biting the hand that feeds you, and it IS bad practice.

If you through some hard work of your own stumble across a secret cache of cheap computer gear, buy it, and sell it later, that's capitalism.

If you watch the hot deals forum day in and day out because you have no life, buy everything that looks resellable, and then turn around a week later and sell it in the FS forum on the same site - that is being a jackass.

What happens if the trend continues? No one posts any hot deals, becuase they are better off not publicizing them.

I stopped selling stuff on the "For Sale/Trade" forum here when some guy in Germany offered me $20 for a videocard and followed up that PM with one telling me that shipping would cost approximately $18.

I probably still have the PM's to show this too, lol.

Pissed because you missed out on a hot deal? Once again, if the deal is over, then what difference does it make? When companies start selling their products at cost, then you might be worth listening to.

The world is out to make money. Join in or sit around fooling yourself. Your choice.

flot and matstars are morons. Fvck them. Doesn't matter how you got it...or how much you paid for it. If it's not stolen, it's fair game. As long as you list it at a fair price, no thing to b!tch about.

Personally, I don't think a seller has to explain the method in which he got the item at all if it's irrelevant to the sale.

I've sold stuff here that was a Hot Deals related purchase and made some profit. So what?

People on this forum are saavy enough that you can't post some obnoxious price and expect it to sell. Getting in on a good deal and passing the saving to a fellow member is perfectly acceptable. If I make a little money for my time there is nothing wrong with that.

Don't like it, don't buy it.

I suppose you don't buy anything from newegg either...afterall, they're just reselling some one else's product too.

To repeat, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

Why does this thread even exist? A PM you think is rude goes into the circular file, that's it. No need to post about it with a screenshot in a not so subtle attempt to get back at matstars. Luckily this thread didn't turn into a personal flame war for the most part and deviated into a more useful discussion about economics and altruism, which should have been the topic of the thread all along imo.

My opinion on the issue is that yes it seems kinda bad that people just surf deals and sell it back on FS/FT for a profit, but:

1) That's economics, if there is a market, why not sell it for a higher price?
2) It takes time and effort to find these deals (although the hot deals forums makes this a lot easier)
3) They are not obligated to buy an item when it's on sale and sell it to you for an equal/lower price. You missed the deal, no one is gonna buy something for you and hold it for you at your convenience at no extra cost.

On the other hand, the alternative stories you complain about seem decieving, and I'd rather people just come out and say "I got this from a hot deal and want to sell it" and let market forces do their work. On the other hand, does it matter where they got it? It's the same thing either way and the price depends on the market, not on the price they got it at.
