I like playing around with linux on my PS3 when I'm not playing games. I don't have a divx player either. So i installed a divx codec and now i can watch divx on the big screen which is just another bonus.

What is involved in doing this? is it just a matter of restoring a backup to the new drive? and how big can the drive be, is 120 the current limit?

afaik, you just pop out the old one, pop in the new one (there is an access door on the side). No limit on size, only limited by whats available in 2.5" SATA drives...

If you don't mind the drive being outside of the unit, I believe you can extend the cables and put in any SATA drive.

Technically you could probably just hook up an adapter or extension cable and use a regular 3.5" drive. But then of course you would need an extension for power as well or an external power source. I have been thinking about this for using two different drives, one for linux and one for the gameos, because of the limitations on partition size when you put both oses on a single HDD.

edit: oh also price. those damn 2.5" sata drives are expensive.

Graphic acceleration = 3D capabilities mostly. You can still play SNES games on linux for example. You can play media files such as divx with no problems under linux.

EDIT: Oh and firmware update 1.6 will have some extensive upgrades, from background downloading (confirmed by Phil Harrison's keynote) to other "noticeable" goodies (Phil said they would kill him if he revealed too much).

im not sure how you can say that killed it for you on the 360? The major reason my 360 is on more, is because i can stream music through it while gaming. With the ps3 i cant stream anything, and the photos and music is just what i had on an SD card.

That is absolutely incorrect. Google Orb for PS3.

Just like...... YOUR FACE! Nice. I see a new coming of the catch phrase "your face" again. Brings me back memories of 6th grade.

Well for now, thats why i want the big HD, to throw all my music on there... Sure the 360 can stream everything, but the interface really kinda sucks.

So let's tally this up:

- One decent game
- Linux
- Questionable HD video format

Yep, I'm still not getting one.

Grats. You described the 360 as well. Minus the Linux. And really, as it stands imo, minus the "one decent game" as well. Fvck Gears of Hype.

What is questionable about it? I thought it was giving HD-DVD a good spanking?

Is it? If we are asking these questions then, by definition, it is questionable.
