Did you backup your harddrive and restore, or did you start with a fresh format? Supposedly you can restore after partitioning, but I haven't found a straight answer.

I forgot to allocate the 10 GB to Linux when we first got it, so now we have too many downloads and saves to risk it

yep, there is a backup utility right in the ps3 system menu... backed it all up to a usb hard drive...

I've been reading up on the PS3's linux capabilities. Because it blocks access to gfx acceleration, does that mean that unless someone hacks that, you can never play any media through linux, and use the PS3 as a HTPC like box?

What is involved in doing this? is it just a matter of restoring a backup to the new drive? and how big can the drive be, is 120 the current limit?
