Depends on who you ask. Some say that it means 7 days, as in 7 rotational periods of Earth. Others say it's 7 "days" where "day" means "some long unit of time."Originally posted by: Throckmorton

So what then do you have: is it faith, is it proof, or is it Memorex? One definition of faith is, "Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence."Originally posted by: Gamingphreek
Faith - believing completely in that for which no evidence exists.
Absolutely not-- perhaps a blind faith. The Bible has been around for thousands of years, has been torn apart inside and out and yet still stands because people cannot prove otherwise. That to me is more than enough evidence to say that I am saved...

So then, 7 days. 7 real days, or not? Literal or anecdotal? Yes, these have all been proven completely, that's why there's such great harmony among organized religions.
7 days = disproved

Mr. Fusion would solve the first three. Drastic reduction in emissions, no need for gasoline, and no need for us to be in Iraq in the first place. World peace.......well, without war, people would probably get bored and start fighting over something else anyway. Even after Jesus brings about world peace, someone would start arguing about whose idea it was to have Jesus bring about world peace. Then The Crusades Reloaded would start, with Neo Jesus leading the troops.Originally posted by: Parasitic
Reduce global warming.
$1.50/gal gas prices
No more war in iraq.
and yes the obligatory world peace.

This is the beauty of the word faith...
and the irony at the same time.
If they were truly "faithful", they would find peace in that alone, and not be dragged into the turmoil of conflict that the non believers seem to be able to embroil them in.
Heh-heh...yeah, let's go kill the unbelievers for Jeezus...
Funny that doctrine is totally absent from Christianity. You don't even have to visit church to notice that. If there was such a doctrine, this country would have been a blood bath ever since it's inception. Plus, we'd even have laws in the US allowing us to persecute and kill unbelievers.
Don't believe all the baseless fear-mongering of anti-Christian types. Sadly, truth doesn't always catch up with the lies.

How can you say that Creationism isn't on par with evolution. Years ago we thought that the world was flat and that was wrong. What makes a series of coincidences (And by coincidences things that have <1% chance of happening, much less simultaneously) so infallible? The answer is nothing... yet Christianity who has been around for many centuries before that, and has been ripped apart, still remains and still cannot be disproven.

Youse X-tians keep asking us to prove your religion wrong...we ask that you prove that it's true.
Anecdotal evidence, a book written by men and edited to fit the King's desire doesn't qualify at proof...just more anecdotal evidence.
There may well have been a man named Jesus in these times, and he may well have been crucified...but there's no PROOF that he magically escaped from the tomb and "ascended into Heaven" as claimed.
I don't care if you choose to believe this, taking it all on faith. That's fine, but don't expect everyone else to do so...some of us DEMAND proof of the existance, not only of your Jesus Christ, but of your God as well.
I still believe that religion was invented as mind-control for the illiterate masses.

Seriously now,
If people weren't convinced when he came the first time and did his miracles back then (healing the crippled, paralyzed, deaf, mute, and the blind, feeding thousands of people by multiplying a boy's lunch, walking on water, calming storms and waves, raising people from the dead, even raising himself from the dead), people still won't be convinced through miracles alone when he returns the second time.
Luke 16:30-31 " 'No, father Abraham,' he said, `but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' "He (Abraham) said to him, `If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "
The fact is that when we see a miracle, we'll simply think of a reason as to how it could've been done, as we normally do this day and age. So we should ask ourselves again: what will it really take to at least start having an open mind and investigate deeply and objectively?

In this case though the Bible says the Second Coming will be obvious to all. If someone was trying to convince me it was the Second Coming, I wouldn't believe them no matter what they did.
3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
15"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation', spoken of through the prophet Daniel?let the reader understand? 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now?and never to be equaled again. 22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect?if that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time.
26"So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. 27For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
29"Immediately after the distress of those days
" 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'
30"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

I noticed that Gamingphreek only responds to easiest cliche questions and completely ignores other much more convincing arguments vs faith. They didn't write the manual on how to refute those yet? The only way you can stay Christian is to ignore these threads and don't even read any debates. Just ignore everything. If you will honestly search for truth, and be open-minded, you will lose your faith.
