GM is my prefered brand hell I have nothing but good to say about my 99 Chevy S-10 its now
going on 170k miles and still going strong, no major break downs nothing.

on the flipside, my 99 chevy s-10 has 100k miles, brake lights just stopped working and that took $1100 cdn to fix all the burnt wiring and switches that were fried, now the ABS doesn't work, brake shift interlock doesn't function and the fuel gauge is useless. also there's a terrible driveline vibration now. also, the door trim where the door meets the window is flimy and pops off on both sides. also, the hood doesn't always want to open. further, the driver's side door speaker doesn't work.

GM can go fuckk themselves.

Uh, no they aren't technically domestic cars. And they are part of ford, not divisions. Technically for them to be divisions ford would have to own the entire company, which they don't. Instead they are simply majority share holders.

Majority shareholders that have the authority to cross brand frames and componenets?? you might want to check your facts...either way, Ford still has a controlling say in the actions of said companies..

You might want to check this link....

http://www.ford.com/en/company/about/brands/default.htm

Seems pretty cut and dry there....all of the brands listed on that page are essentially Ford...
Unfortunately it isn't at all cut and dry.

Yes Ford owns a 33% controlling interest in Mazda (not even a majority stake!). In the grand scheme of things, I'm not sure how much power Mazda execs still have regarding their future product lines.

Mazda's base of operations is still Heroshima, Japan with their R&D facilities developing the newest RX-8, Mazda6 (Atenza), and the powertrains and electrical components for the Mazda3 (Axela) in house in Japan. The global C-segment platform was a joint venture with Volvo, Ford, and Mazda. They each had their hand in the development of the platform and are responsible for modifying the components as necessary for their model line. For example, the Mazda3 only shares 40-something% of it's parts with either the Ford Euro-Focus (not the damn Escort!) and Volvo S/V40. The powertrains, interior, and exterior for the Mazda3 were developed internally. Hell, the Mazda3 is manufactured and built in Japan!

What you fail to realize is that each company still has their own development and engineering teams that are entirely capable of designing and manufacturing their own vehicles.

I said the same thing, but we found such a great deal and such a huge warranty my dad thought it would be better in the long run.
