the bottle is 980ml and it is a Heritage Edition bottle.

I am not sure what cocktails are good to make with it.

I need some ideas.

what about recipes for desserts?

I am just curious what others on OT have tried before.

thanks.

maybe you could use it as the sugar in a cocktail? orange bitters, vodka, kahlua maybe?

none of what kahlua suggests on its website is a cocktail. no bitters.

Make dessert!

2 large pound cake loaves
Chocolate pudding
Whipped cream
Kahlua
Cocoa powder

Take pound cake loaves and cut into flat slices about 1/2" thick. Line bottom of 9x13 with slices, soak with ~1/4 cup of Kahlua (not too much). Spread a layer of chocolate pudding, and a layer of whipped cream, then stack another layer of pound cake with more Kahlua, another layer of pudding, and cream, and dust the top with cocoa powder.

Someone gave me a bottle several years ago and I have yet to open it. How long does it last or should I get rid of it?

Pretty tasty poured over vanilla ice cream.
Yep. This is our boozy after-dinner go-to.

In a 8oz. mug put;

3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
2 shots Kahlua
1 shot Frangelico
1 shot cold coffee
Whipped cream & cherry
Drizzle Hershey's chocolate syrup

The trick is to let it sit at room temp for ~10 minutes to let some melting/mixing happen.

Had the last couple days off work so I got to try out some new cocktails. Most of them were unimpressive, but one of them was surprisingly fantastic; it convinced my non-whiskey drinking friend he liked whiskey. It's called The Revolver, courtesy of Jeffrey Morgenthaler's Bar Book (which I highly recommend for anyone interested in learning the technique behind great cocktails):

2 ounces dry, spicy bourbon (although I used Bulleit Rye and it worked great)
1/2 ounce coffee liqueur (Kahlua)
2 dashes orange bitters (he includes a recipe for homemade orange bitters, but I just used Regan's)

Stir with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a flamed orange twist. It's an odd drink, in that it doesn't taste like the sum of its parts. No one guessed it had Kahlua, or whiskey for that matter. The nose is all orange, and the flavor has a light coffee sweetness, but it's not cloying. It's just a delightful cocktail all around.

From the "What are you drinking tonight" thread. It's a damn fine drink, but you need a light hand with the Kahlua or you'll oversweeten it. Beyond the Revolver, a White Russian is always awesome, and you can always just add some Kahlua to a normal cup of coffee, which acts as a delightful sweetener.

*up

(straight is actually unnecessary and is actually a bourbon classification)

If you're going to be pedantic, you'd better be accurate. In bartending terminology, "Up" is almost exclusively used to refer to a drink that is stirred or shaken with ice, strained and served in a stemmed glass. "Neat" or "On the Rocks" is probably more what was intended by DAGTA when he mentioned drinking Kahlua "straight," as in "by itself with no mixer." So "Up" doesn't really make sense there.

I'll also add that drinking Kahlua neat, or on the rocks, or up, or straight is absolutely disgusting and should not be done. That's basically like advising somebody to suck on a bottle of Torani syrup. At the absolute minimum you should toss some vodka in there and make a Black Russian. Kahlua needs something to cut through the sweetness; it's not for sipping on its own.

That sounds good. I only have aromatic bitters at home right now, though.

I disagree. I mean, it's not something I do often, but I certainly don't find it disgusting. More like "delicious".

How to make the best cocktails with Kahlua, by Elevenpog the Drunk:

Step 1: Sell your Kahlua for as many money's as possible.

Step 2: Buy ingredients for another cocktail, I suggest Mai Tais or Long Islands this weekend.

Step 3: Profit
