Yep. This is our boozy after-dinner go-to.
In a 8oz. mug put;
3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
2 shots Kahlua
1 shot Frangelico
1 shot cold coffee
Whipped cream & cherry
Drizzle Hershey's chocolate syrup
The trick is to let it sit at room temp for ~10 minutes to let some melting/mixing happen.
Aside from a myriad of sources on the intertrons, lets just think about it. "Up" means served chilled- either shaken or stirred with ice- and then strained into a glass. When one orders something "straight up," one usually means poured directly from the bottle into a glass, without chilling or mixers. So, "straight up" and "up" are conflicting terms. And that might be okay, except there is already a term for "poured from bottle into glass without mixer," and that's "neat."*Needs citation.
If you're going to be pedantic, you'd better be accurate. In bartending terminology, "Up" is almost exclusively used to refer to a drink that is stirred or shaken with ice, strained and served in a stemmed glass. "Neat" or "On the Rocks" is probably more what was intended by DAGTA when he mentioned drinking Kahlua "straight," as in "by itself with no mixer." So "Up" doesn't really make sense there.
I'll also add that drinking Kahlua neat, or on the rocks, or up, or straight is absolutely disgusting and should not be done. That's basically like advising somebody to suck on a bottle of Torani syrup. At the absolute minimum you should toss some vodka in there and make a Black Russian. Kahlua needs something to cut through the sweetness; it's not for sipping on its own.
Someone gave me a bottle several years ago and I have yet to open it. How long does it last or should I get rid of it?
1 & 1/2 Oz Kahlua
1 Oz Campari
1 Oz Sour Mix
2 Tps of salt
5 mini marshmellows
Orange juice
A heavy dash of Angostura bitters
Top it off with Diet Sunkist
I call it the Oh God, I'm Going To Throw Up.
