driving with an open container? drinking and driving? what a winner we have here ladies and gents...

Oh yeah, because one beer makes a person sooooo drunk, right?

In the fight against drunk driving, we have lost all reason.

In California atleast, it's enough fines and insurance hikes to make your life suck ass.

I didn't say it wasn't against the law. I mearly pointed out how reactionary, rather than reasonable it is to condemn someone for having A beer in a car.

You lose someone to a drunk driver and then you tell me how YOU feel about ANY alcohol and driving. /thread

I feel for your loss. However, that does not excuse overreactions that cost innocent people their freedoms.

In no way will one beer make an average sized person too drunk to drive. In fact, one beer wont even put the vast majority any where near the laughingly low "legal limit."

Ask yourself what the BAC was of this person who took your loved one. Then ask yourself why you over react and point fingers even at ridiculously low BAC numbers?

Ok, so change the laws to say 1-2 beers is ok for men who weigh 125-140 lbs, 3-4 for 140lb, etc etc..you see where this becomes an issue? Who is to say what is the allowable amount then for every driver?

You cannot justify drinking and driving, period.

Bullsh!t. A person can imbibe within reason and still operate a motor vehicle. All you are doing is catering to the lowest common denominator and treating people like children.

It simply amazes me how quickly people fall for knee-jerk activism instead of common sense and reason.

are you saying we should allow people to slurp beer while driving as long as they promise to have "just one"? or maybe two... hell, have 3 because you know you are still OK to drive.
OP shouldn't have had a beer in the vehicle while he was driving. period. alcohol impairs ability.
Thank you.

One beer does NOT impair a damn thing. Hell, OTC cold and allergy medications cause more impairment than a single beer. Hell, having a cold causes more impairment.

So because too much beer can cause impairment, we should over react and not drive even if we've had one beer?

The common sense and reason should have fallen upon the OP by deciding to wait until he arrived at his destination before popping open a cold one. There is no common sense in drinking a beverage that impares someone's abilities. Even just one.

what the OP did was illegal. do you dispute that?

FFS, there's a reason the legal limit for BAC is .08-.10 and not 0. Settle down.

.08 is a ridiculously low farce driven into law by activism, not reason and common sense.

.10 is more reasonable.

Have you even taken cold medications and driven? Have you ever driven while sick?

A single beer is not going to impair his ability to drive by any signifigant margin.

Your stance is an over reaction.

You people get your panties in a bunch about the legality of everything.

Why not just jump right into orwellian society and call it a day.

Whose to say what is significant? It bothers me more that he chose to say to hell with everyone and drove with an open container. I wish he was caught.

I'm not 'amused' by your posts on this thread.

If you actually read my posts, you'd know the answer to that.
so it's illegal. you have no recourse.

So the law is no longer debatable?

Here's a hint: Saying something is illegal does not trump an argument about whether or not laws are reasonable, or reactionary.

Try again.

here's a bigger hint, on your character: you are a supporter of drinking and driving.

thats the problem here, isnt it? Any person with reason wouldnt have an open bottle in the car. cuz reason dictates that if they get caught, there will a hefty fine!
thus, people who drink and drive....are not within reason.

Oh wow, it is so slick of you to incorporate my name in an insult directed towards me.

Whose to say? How about common sense and reason? Or is that lost to knee-jerk reactionism and nanny-state hand wringing?

Drinking within REASON.

Again, a SINGLE BEER will impair the average person LESS than OTC cold and allergy meds, or having a cold or flu.

LOL, an insult? Dude, I didn't even make fun of you. Who's the one lacking common sense and reason even on this topic? Proves your common sense and reason might be lacking in other areas (including the d&d part of this thread).
