Yet I don't have a drivers license. I'm 20. I work full time and can probably afford one for ~300 or so a month.

I just don't want to pay for 5+ years. I'd rather get it done quick.. so I'd most likely go for something under the $20k range.

.. Any advice?

Not having a driver's license is probably a bigger hurdle than getting the car right now.

Thank procrastination for that. Any idea how long it'll take to get one?

Get a used car. New cars are the biggest waste of money on the planet.

You can either get a new car for $20,000 and hope it's a good one, or you can buy a used car for $2,000 and get 10 tries to find a good one.

Depends on how much time whoever is going to teach you has. Probably a couple of months. Then go buy a used car and hate having to drive your deadbeat friends who don't have their own cars like the rest of us.

I'd say go used too. I just bought a new TSX for over $30k after all was said and done, I could've saved at least $10k-$12k going used...definitely not chump change.

Only reason I went new was because I intend to run this to the ground.

Getting a DL doesn't take too terribly long. However, like someone else said, get a used car. The sales tax on a new vehicle is insanity, not to mention they don't hold value very well anyways.

If you are in California, you can't buy/register a car without a license.

i beg to differ. not a lot of people in NYC carry driver's license.

Exactly. I got mine in my late 20's but I have to admit, I'm a horrendous driver.

10 tries, but you want to be stranded on the road 10+ times when before you make the next try?

If it's your first car, you should probably get something really cheap to learn the road on. I don't care how old you are, you are inexperienced and something bad will happen to your first car.
