So I turned on my local Top 40 station the other day

Yeah, my 9 year old son tries to change the station to the local top 40 station all of the time, but I always make him change it back. Not only because it's inappropriate in most cases, but because I also want to instill in my son what real music is.

His mom lets him listen to that crap and "all of the other kids at school do too". He actually argued with me when I told him that "Does your chain hang low" song was actually a butchered nursery rhyme. I had to set him straight on that one. God I hate that song.

please, keep on fighting the good fight.

Everyone loves the music they heard when they were teenagers and young adults. You get stuck with this music and hate anything different. Just the way it is.

I loved disposable pop when I was a young, stupid teen but I once found 70s rock and good metal when I was 16 I never listened to the pop and rap crap again.

I only have 80's/classical music or BBC Radio 4 news and current affairs on the radio when I'm doing the work commute.

Everything else can fvck off.

NPR FTW.

LOL... It's funny you mention that.

I had been listening to NPR earlier in the day, so when my son (8 years old) and I left for hockey that night, the station came on in the car with some "classic" Jazz playing.

His first question was why was there no singer... but after that he enjoyed it, and now requests it from time to time.

It's what the masses want. 🙁 My local classic rock station was recently changed to smooth jazz or something like that (The Hawk 97.5 in Princeton, NJ). I haven't found another classic rock station in the area yet. 🙁 WZZO up in Allentown is a long-time favorite, although they're not exclusively a classic rock station, they play a lot of newer rock. I'm just on the edge of their range though, so depending on where I drive I may be out of range.

Rock is going through a bit of a revival right now.......Death Cab For Cutie "Follow You", My Chemical Romance "The Black Parade", and Breaking Benjamin "Diary Of Jane" are some of the greatest songs I've heard since the turn of the millenium.

Aside from that, I have a 75 mile commute two days a week and during that time I'd say I listen to the Spanish station about half that time or more. Not that ranchero polka sh!t......but rather their equivolent of the top 40. Some nice stuff on their.....Zuccero, Mana, etc.

It's really R&B and Hip hop that is in a drought right now which was inevitable given their refusal to evolve from their gold-chain-dangling ho-pimping roots.

Classic rock mostly sucks. I'm sick of hearing Stevie Ray Vaughan. Any Clearchannel station will suck, because they must cater to the lowest common denominator.
