i think both of you are jackass's.

you for sending email to everyone in the company, escalating it to management and him for replaying that way. To be honest i would have replied just as he did.

Yeah, I agree with others who said that what you did was unprofessional. Even the content of your letter isn't exactly constructed in the best manner. It almost came off rather as a solicitation. You should have spoken of your relationship with your co-workers and the company first before you joked about or discussed your future profession as a lawyer.

Besides, if you really wanted to let those who were important to you know that you were leaving, then you should have personalized the e-mail--or at the very least sent it to each individual, rather than as a mass e-mail. It may take more time, but you're the one claiming how important they were to you. And please don't say how you knew them all because apparently you didn't if you provoked such a response from a co-worker.

Lastly, yes, your co-worker could have handled things differently, but his reaction doesn't excuse your action either.

P.S. On a side note, you spelt "privilege" just as I once used to, even though I knew the right spelling. LOL! :D Btw, a lawyer doesn't mean specialty in all areas. They may not be able to utilize your skills as a lawyer.

I'll be quitting July 15th to go to law school in the fall and i sent out this email (to our entire US Financial Institutions Group because I've worked with 80%-90% of these guys):

Sadly, next Friday (15th of July) will be my last day with *****. I have accepted an offer to attend law school and will begin this fall. Law school is typically 3 years, so should any of you require legal aid/service (hopefully not!) don't hesitate to contact me then, via the email address/phone number I have listed below =).

I wanted to thank all of you for making my time here so memorable. I've had the priviledge of making great friends here and thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you. Please keep in touch.

Email - *****
Phone - *****

Best,

Ronnie

Then I get a response from this guy (falls in the 10%-20% of ppl in this group that I don't know):

AND Who on earth are you? And what should I get this e-,ail? Have I ever seen you in my life?

WTF? I was going to write him back, but haven't done so yet. I've told ppl around the office about this b/c this guy is a straight up jackass. Who writes this crap to ppl you don't even know?

Pics of Japan? What's taking so long??? I want to see those pics of Eugene and yourself in the hot springs frolicking.

It was not a sight for sore eyes.

The workplace is all about courtesy and helping each other. I love where I currently work. People go out of their ways to help each other, and greet each other everyday. Everyone just lightens up everyone's mood. It's good for a good working atmosphere, and improve employee morale.

The workplace is the last place where I want to meet jackasses
