Bah. SPAM is blatent advertising or *completely* pointless e-mail. This would be classified as a "who cares" message (for those people who didn't know you).

FWIW, at my last job, we would send out announcements any time a person joined or left the company... the announcements were via e-mail... system-wide. After a few people complained, a response to the complaints was also sent out, system-wide... telling them that they were free to use their delete keys if they didn't deem the message important.

:D

My favorites were the people that would send mail out to the address list for "ALL - SYSTEM"... and then claim it was an accident. Last fall, the politics got so bad that I temporarily suspended that mailing list, because people were sending messages all over the place that had no business being system to everyone. Once the list disappeared for a week or so, everyone kinda got the hint that they should tone it down a bit. ;)

thanks dude. ill most likely end up at NYU law. waitlisted at harvard and stanford but the chances for those schools look to be nil. hahahahaha. nyu's hot though and im really excited.

nice job, nyu law has an awesome community. believe it or not, the students are not all that cut throat and people will hook you up with notes and stuff. the name itself gets you in the door for interviews, and imo, nyc is just a great place to live.

I saw almost the same thing happen where I worked. The email was forwarded to everyone with a reply and a general flamewar erupted. It was hilarious because the dickweed got publicly roasted by a lot of people.

I'm very surprised that anyone you don't know would receive such an email. Something like that is very personal.

I would have only sent that to the people I know & I would have personalized each email.

While I'll agree he was a jackass with that response, it was extremely unprofessional of you to forward it along to the rest of the department. And it makes you just as big of a jackass.

well i forwarded it to my boss and coworker. the guy who wrote me the email is decently high in the food chain - he had no right to email me that garbage (treating me as if i'm lower than he is simply because of his seniority).

i feel what i did was not unprofessional at all. you are not familiar with the relationship i have with my boss and my coworker.

Well it sounds like more that two people from the above statement. But it's still unprofessional even if you have a great relationship with the boss.

I don't see anything wrong with the way that guy responded. Those that are quitting should only send e-mails to those that he/she knows, even if you know all but 10-20% of the people there.
