BF2 vs BF3, yeah BF3 went more towards COD. But BC2 vs BF3, BC2 is way more like COD. BF3 was more like BF 2.5, but the Bad Company series was always more about going after COD. No strafe running in BC2 was odd, but after awhile you don't even notice it. Actually creates a weird psycho tunnel vision when you are running around looking for people to kill.

That's odd, I thought BF3 was more of a COD than BC2...I can't comment on BF4 since I didn't buy/play.

BF2/BF2142 were basically 1:1 with different vehicles and guns, I don't think any of the recent releases come within miles of what the gameplay used to be.

I'd call 2142 a 2.5, and BC2 being a sidestep into COD territory, and BF3+ going full retard on it.

Nothing is as bad as BF:Vietnam though. My god the vehicles with the music/doppler effect were hilarious.

Maybe people think this because of the gadgets like the MAV, mortars, EOD, etc, which are essentially like COD's kill streaks, except worse because you don't have to do anything to earn them. Plus, the infantry focused maps were great, like Metro, Grand Bazaar, Siene Crossing, Davamond Peaks, etc. As far as the guns and the gunplay, BC2 is more like COD.

hehe some old footage from BC2:

When I played BC2 I mainly sniped or used the shoguns, and both were better in BC2. Especially the shotguns with slugs + magnum ammo. I used to snipe people with the shotgun in the Vietnam dlc. Good times. I think the hand guns were better too.
I did the same because it felt like the assault rifles and LMGs were virtually useless at range so you may as well run and gun with a shotty, or even a pistol like the guy in your video link above. LOL

They were all weak. Either that or the characters were supermen with awesome body armor. But then again Im a one hit kill kinda guy, I like it super hardcore! LOL

That must be the case because those weapons were the definition of overpowered in the early days. Glad they are nerfed now.

For the people saying it's too hard to kill someone: try aiming at the head.

I just started playing BC2 and I feel it takes way more "skill" and is far less "noob friendly" than any of the recent COD's. I am getting pwned, whereas any COD game I can hop on and do well even if I don't know the maps.

Bad Company 2 is the last online FPS I've actually liked playing. BF3 was absolute rubbish. BF4 I won't even touch after BF3. Fuck the direction FPS games are going. FPS games have become so slow and "follow the big flashing arrow" that it's no fun anymore. Endless cutscenes and quick time events. Bah!

This is how I feel about modern FPS :p:

Imho those are the two worst maps I've ever seen in an online shooter. Chokepoint after chokepoint to take all the fun out of it. I can't stand those chokepoints and the pointless nadespam. Rush was pretty much the only mode I played in BF3 and like 90 % of servers were Metro and Damavand Peak only. So annoying.

hahaha, well if 90% of the servers ran those maps only, you must be in the minority. I don't mind the choke points. My favorite map in BF4 was Operation Locker. No where to hide and bushwhack someone, just gun on gun skill. And noob tube and grenade spam, but I would rather take that over being raped by vehicles.

vietnam expansion was the BEST, i wasted so many hours on that shit. i never liked bc2 but the expansion got me hooked forever. it ran a lot smoother due to using a diff engine i believe.

You must not have played Vantage Point in the Vietnam DLC. :D

The problem with BC2 was the small, claustrophobic maps and ridiculously powerful and accurate LMGs that made other weapons useless. On the other hand, the knifing was incredibly fun and was like a mini game, especially when friends were on the other team. I had over 1000 knife kills in BC2. In BF4, I have just over 300, in a comparable amount of time.

The Rush maps were sublime. Seeing Valparaiso makes me miss that game so much. I'm hoping that with the recent BF4 fumbles, EA might be more tempted to make Bad Company 3 to put some distance between BF4 and BF5.

And Oasis Rush? Hello Sniper/Shotgun/C4 builds.

If you are talking about the rush map where you start off in that river, I kinda liked that map. Just have to break through on that first part, but otherwise it was pretty good. Just had to wait for the defenders to get overconfident and then flank them. Kinda like all rush maps really.

BC and BC2 were awesome. The SP campaigns where really fun too, much better than current games. I loved running the tanks through walls and blowing up buildings. I was sad to see destruction leave the BF series.

Sound like you are talking about the beta? Anyway, you won't get far with a team consisting of nothing but medics. Ok, M60 was op in the beginning but most weapons are well balanced now (PP200 bit weak maybe). Also, most people would consider the knifing to be pretty much broken (it's not really, just have to get used to it a bit).

I wonder what you think about cod if you think bc2 maps are small. But there are some much bigger maps available now after patches. You really should try it again.

I wonder if it's because of next-gen graphics, maybe they have some features that make destruction harder to pull off.

Because destruction in general in all games seems to be less than what it used to be when games were graphically simpler.

That's the one! After that first set of objectives, maintaining control of the tank(s) on the map was a big part of defending or attacking on rush. That was so much fun. It was like that for most of the Vietnam DLC.

Of course, map sizes aren't as large as some of the maps in BF3 or 4, but most of any map could be reshaped for attacking or defending by taking out walls, trees, or whatever to force others to adapt to the plan you made. There was a lot of meta-gaming to stay ahead of others.

LMG's are pretty strong and getting rushed by a medic squad/team is frustrating, but it's not the be all, end all.

I haven't played COD since the original came out.

Reinstalled the other day.

Movement feels super slow, and jumping seems very cartoonish (think mario). Will take a while to get used to, but it's a lot uglier than I remember.

BF BC2 was the first FPS game that I fell in love with. The aiming and precise of the weapons are great. Destruction is much better than BF4. Only thing was that you can't lay flat on the ground and no claymores, but other than that the game is great. I used to put hours on TDM on the PS3. Thinking about getting it for pc.

I put a few hundred hours into both the 360 and Steam versions of BC2, and probably thousands of hours into BF1942 and BF2.

I did like BC2 on the 360, because with the lower player counts, it would have been kind of stupid to have gigantic BF2 style maps, but I absolutely hated the close out of bounds. Everyone always knew within a swath of gameplay area where you would be coming from.

BF3 just plain stunk imo. While I did have some good games, the vast majority of the time it was two large groups by a chokepoint throwing grenades at each other while people dropping ammo packs gained large amount of experience. Terrible. The open maps were great, but too few of them. Didn't even bother watching a video of BF4, let alone buy it.
