In the three years since I've played BC2, I have not found a single FPS that I can play for more than a month, not Battlefield, CoD, Insurgency, Titan Fall, nothing. Prior to BC2 I played R6 for many years and BC2 was the only game since then that provided tight and fun multiplayer with great maps.

It's not that those other games are bad, I enjoyed them, but cannot really see myself playing them long term. BC2 just felt like a perfectly crafted experience, deaths are not frustrating, gameplay does not feel random or chaotic, vehicles are totally optional and don't dominate, the kits are fun and useful, the graphics are great and the game is easy to look at, which is more than I can say for BF3/4.

The game is still slightly buggy unfortunately, and hardcore mode is a sniper fest, but I stick to normal Conquest/Rush and plan on putting in at least another couple hundred hours. I have no faith that EA is going to give us a decent sequel after the cluster fuck that was BF4. I only hope that the game stays populated because I really don't see any alternatives coming anytime soon.

So if you're not happy with the current line up of FPS, I can safely recommend BC2, and if you have it and haven't played it in a while, you might be surprised that the game really hasn't aged at all, the UI is great and the Frostbite engine really hasn't changed a ton since then, and of course it's fuckin' $7.

I loved busting choppers with tanks in the vietnam expansion.

Making chopper blades one large circular hitbox FTW :awe:

Still the best characters of any video game ever.....Sarge, Sweetwater, and Haggard....man you really got to KNOW those dudes.

Yes, I know most of this thread is about the MP aspects. But SP is where it's at.......

Only stopped playing cause corrupted system files make it crash. Will reinstall as soon as I reformat and install a clean Windows cause it's the funnest FPS ever.

lol I only played the SP too and loved it. It's a very funny game - some of which was on me as I'm frantically trying to respond to a threat only to realize that the game has seized control for yet another cut scene.

"What? I can know stuff!"

I agree completely. The experience this game offers is very polished and I love it. It's my favorite mp fps ever. I played it for 2 years on PS3 and then bought it on PC when I had a current rig. The population of the servers where I'm at are only up now during prime time hours, the rest of the day or night can be pretty sparse.

Its too bad more people aren't playing the Vietnam DLC. I tried playing it a couple of months ago and there was only two populated servers.

A lot of people say Bad COmpany 2 has the best single player.

I got Battlefield 3 in a humble bundle and BC2 later in a Steam sale and I much prefer BC2, even though the graphics are worse the game is better and not DLC'd to death.

What do you guys think about Battlefield 2? The collection is on Steam deal today. Graphics look pretty dated for a 2009 game.

Battlefield 2 was released in 2005. Don't take Steam's "release date" text at face-value, since it usually denotes when the game was released on steam, rather than when the game was actually released.

If you like Battlefield I implore you to check out PlanetSide 2. It's the most fun I've had in a multiplayer game since the early days of Counter-Strike and Diablo 2.

Yup, still playing this. I just wish Dice did one more patch so the autobalancer actually balances instead of just moving the last joiner to the other team. In fact I remember playing on some servers that scrambled teams after every round but most admins don't seem to care/are unaware/like to noobstomp.

I wouldn't call vehicles optional though, they are key to winning actually. But they are balanced well enough.

Just reinstalled the game this evening as well, being bored with BF3 and nothing but frustrated with BF4 it was nice to jump on a server in BC2 and actually do pretty well after not being active in ages and have some serious fun at the same time.

Had enough fun to uninstall BF3 and want to relive the excitement that is BC2 for a good long while I think.

Yikes. I thought this game sucked major donkey balls.

Then again, I'm not a huge BF fan. (Outside of flying jets, I guess)

I said it once I will say it again, next to BF1942 and BF2, BC2 is the best battlefield game in recent years. BC2 is better than BF3 and BF4, many will disagree but hey thats just my opinion.

Man I loved this game, but assumed most went to bf3/4, which means I need to get back into it! Firstly, I could actually see in it. Secondly, red dot sniper rifles ftw!

Man, BC2 was pretty damn awesome. It didn't really try to be a BF2 sequel and just did its own thing really really well. Insanely fun.

IMO BF2 > BC2 >>BF4>>>>BF3

I'm thinking about reinstalling it now...

Hear, hear. Definitely agreed.

The main problem is that Battlefield started focusing too much on the individual class loadout instead of the different classes themselves.

There used to be six, then downsized to (4?). Went from 1 weapon per class (per team), to 2/3, to 4 + a handfull of mods, to who knows how many with 12+ customizations per weapon...it just got a little too much.

My best times in Battlefield will always be wingsurfing, or laying down on the floor of the Blackhawk in DeserCombat when all the seats were taken, and actually surviving the flight/not warping.

heh..BC2 was the most COD like out of all the BF games, but in a lot of ways it was the most fun. Smaller maps, one hit sniper rifle kills, panic knifing with huge hit radius. BF3 and BF4 kinda tried to be too serious with all the stupid unlocking, blinding glare, suppression, etc, and not to mention the bugs. To me BF just kinda started to become more annoying than fun.

You are the first person Ive ever heard say that, most complained that BF3 went wrong by going more for the cod crowd. I was a huge CoD4 fan when BC2 came out and my gripes against BC2 were: no prone, no strafe running, which made for slow clumsy character movements, and what I felt were ridiculously weak weapons. I played nothing but hardcore and still found it too aggravating to really enjoy. On the bright side: sniping, and going on knifing or carl gustaving sprees was pretty fun.

I agree that BF3's glare and suppression was horrible, but BF4 thankfully took most of that out. Also agree that all the unlocks suck too, but unfortunately it seems every FPS game out now takes that route.

I'd like to see them redo the 1942 series. I think it was probably was one of the most fun games I've ever played. I seriously doubt they will remake it, it doesn't seem like something most of the call of duty generation would want to play.

BF2 vs BF3, yeah BF3 went more towards COD. But BC2 vs BF3, BC2 is way more like COD. BF3 was more like BF 2.5, but the Bad Company series was always more about going after COD. No strafe running in BC2 was odd, but after awhile you don't even notice it. Actually creates a weird psycho tunnel vision when you are running around looking for people to kill.

When I played BC2 I mainly sniped or used the shoguns, and both were better in BC2. Especially the shotguns with slugs + magnum ammo. I used to snipe people with the shotgun in the Vietnam dlc. Good times. I think the hand guns were better too.
