So I named my son after a video game character.

My brother named his daughter after an anime character (Akane, pronounced uh-con-nay). At least I think that's where he got it. It's Japanese, anyway.

Hopefully he grows up to be a knife-sharpener.

Super hot blonde girl customer: "Are you sure you can sharpen this edge?"
Your son: "Edge is my middle name baby."

his initials are NEC.

Admit it, you have an unhealthy obsession w/ DVD burners.

The last game she played was Pole Position. :) I tried to have her play Eternal Darkness, but those new fangled analog control sticks seemed difficult of her to grasp. She kept walking into the zombies. :(

Were you home schooled? No kid wants their middle name to be "Edge", you're being selfish.

If that was his first name, then I would agree with you. But I don't think his middle name will cause any problems.

They call out middle names all the time. He'll have to explain it. He will have to come up with some excuse instead of telling people the real truth. "Its from a popular RPG from the 90s" Yea, that will be smooth with the girls. You think it is awesome, but you're a gaming nut. It's your kid, and your obviously not going to change it. Especially just based on what ATOT says. I can't believe your wife went along with it. What a lame thing to do though. I wish him the best, he'll need it.

Compared to the other names I hear these days, a somewhat different middle name is quite tame. It's not like he's named Moonray Dream. I truely don't belive this will be an issue for him growing up.

Maybe I am over reacting. I honestly hope it won't be an issue for him.

You are definitely over reacting. Edge isn't even a bad name. The more I say it the cooler it sounds. Also, Lola wtf was that? Like Lola is a better name than edge? You are a combination of the French masculine and feminine direct object pronouns. I would rather be named after a video game character. See how it feels when someone makes fun of your name?

At least you didn't pull a Frank Zappa and name your child "Moon Unit" or "Dweezil" XD

I'm a huge Panzer Dragoon fanatic so I'll have to give you a thumbs up on the decision :D

Edge is pretty bad IMO. It's all subjective. The only bad part is that the child, who now bears that name, has no say in it.

Please explain to me how Edge is any different than a "normal" name. I see no problem. It is unique but not so unique that people will say the name when they make up racist jokes or stereotypes, i.e. Latisha, Pedro, or something similar.

And the fact that it's a middle name, it won't be the main name he's known by or called everyday. I'm really suprised it's getting this much reaction, I didn't think that it was that out there, or that bad.

That is a waste of time. You think one way, and I think another. Whether or not someone's name is a "good" name is subjective. I would hope you'd at least agree that the sad part is that the child has no say in the matter.

The kid might as well have Ewok as his middle name to date him furter. Nothing like a link to the 70s and Star Wars.

I knew a guy from a previous job that named his daughter Terra, after the FF3 character.
I don't remember what the middle name was though.
