So I modded my Les Paul guitar - which is better?

BTW.. most modern gibsons are terrible, the quality control is laughable.

You need to go to the Gibson Custom Shop or buy a Heritage guitar to get something close to a LP from back in the day.

Yep.

If you want cheaper, the Japanese copies are far better than anything Gibson puts out non-custom shop for a fraction of the cost. (not epiphone, I'm talking tokai, edwards, etc)

Better Than Epiphone's Les Pauls'

It IS a Les Paul. Obviously not a true Gibson Les Paul. But then again, I'm a casual player not a pro, so it's good for me, I just can't spend more than a grand on a guitar. I can always modify the components too. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

The pickguard is very easy to swap around. The hardest thing is the pickup rings b/c you have to obviously replace the strings and then adjust the pickup height again. I'm thinking about leaving white selector switch plate and white pickup rings and black everything else. I just wasn't a huge fan of white pickguard. I basically made it look like the epiphone Les Paul custom but I have chrome hardware, not gold. My ultimate would be a Cherry Sunburst custom. Perhaps that will happen down the road.

FYI: Epiphone != Les Paul

Not knocking you as I have an Epi myself. Looked better before IMO.

You do know that Epiphone is Gibson's overseas company right?

Wiki

I know. It's technically a Les Paul but it's not a Les Paul in the traditional sense. It's an endorsed Korean knockoff. I'm still not putting Epi down, I have the 56 Goldtop myself.

1. Yes, it's a Les Paul. Infact, the Elitist versions of Epiphones are highly regarded and compared to its Gibson couterpart.

2. That's a sissy mod😉 All that required was 5 minutes and a screwdriver. Change the pick ups and then we can talk🙂

I like the cream and gold better... more classic than pure black.

Or get it with a classic cherry sunburst. 🙂 And add a new humbucker pickup. 🙂

You mean.....kinda like THIS 🙂

I know....it's ONLY and Epi....but it sure plays nice for me.

My Gibson SG is no slouch either

Oh yeah.....I voted for the 'classic' look but then I'm no young buck either 🙁

heh...On my Ibanze, I've replaced all the wiring, pickups, pickup selector and did coil tapping on my humbuckers to get the single coil sound via 5 way pickup 🙂 So now can we talk 😉

I've got a heritage cherry sunburst epi les paul (one of the "good" ones), and I've put Gibson 490R and 498T humbuckers in it. Pretty sweet. The tuners are still crap, but I'm just too lazy to change them.
