I'd have to agree. How do you think I dun gain weight? I run 7 miles each day.

Get a good pair of running shoes and start running. Good way to burn fat.

you can always go swimming. Swimming is a very good cardiovascular work-out and will lose you some pounds.

aphex,

I'm 5'11" and 24 years old.

A year ago I was in the exact same boat as you a year ago. I was a 190lbs and I didn't like the way my clothes fit. I decided to do something about it.

I was confronted by hundreds of methods and tons of advice. I didn't know where to start. Since there was so many differing opinions on what works best, I decided that there was no true formula for losing weight. Of course, everybody is different. I decided to do it my way. Here's what I did:

  • Drink less alcohol - This is probably my number one reason for losing weight and inches
Just eat less food, but still eat satisfying portions.
    Eat healthier meals.
Exercise - I would go for a run every other night.
    Cut out high-calorie soda
    Cut out fast food
Basically, I cut out a lot of crap. I didn't stop eating the things I enjoyed, but I ate them infrequently. I maintained a balance. I would treat myself once in a while and it made those foods more enjoyable. After a while I stopped craving them.

I'm now less than 170lbs, and I look good. I get complimented all the time, but best of all - my clothes fit the way I want them to.

Find what works and stick to it.

Good luck.

good luck, 5'11 and i've lost bout 55 pounds since last May. Still want to get down 5-10, or at least when I'm happy with my body.

Problem is, I need more muscle mass. Part of what I did was cardio 5 days per week (3 days, 1 day break, 2 days, 1 day break, etc....) and I drink a lot of water.

I recommend cutting out soda in your diet, try to drink water instead. Juice is ok, make sure its sugar free and healthy and milk is good, try zero fat.

I've dropped almost 10 pounds in a month just by cutting out cokes and candy bars... of course, I was having (at least) one every day.

Many people have different formulas but when it all comes down to it the successful ones almost invariably rely not on Atkins or any other tricks but by doing what you did: take in less calories long term than your body needs to maintain weight. The response is fat loss. Done right you can easily keep muscle mass as well!

Thanks bro!

Well i guess im already on my way...

I hardly drink alcohol... (one drink a month if even that) and I started eating healthier, drinking only water, and exercising more. But i do need to cut back on the size of my meals, as they still could be smaller.

"Hey guys."

"Lester, I didn't know you ran."

"Well, I just started."

"Good for you."

"I figured you guys might be able to give me some pointers. I need to shape up fast."

"Are you looking to just lose weight? Or do you want to have increased strength and flexability as well."

"I want to look good naked."

You might be better setting a goal of losing "X" number of inches off your waist.

If you work out all summer, it is very possible that you could get looking the way you want, but not actually lose 15 pounds.

Pay little attention to what your scale says, pay attention to how you look and what the tape measure says.

If you really want a wake up call, have a friend ( or g/f) take a pic of you in your undies from a few feet away. I'll tell you from experience, I looked twice as bad as I pictured myself a couple of years ago when I made my wife do this to me ( she took 3 pics, front, back and a side view). I still have her take a new pic every 6 months or so, and you can really tell a difference from a pic.

My roomate is a coke addict (coca cola). I am a dr. pepper junky. Last fall we made a deal that we wouldn't drink pop/soda at all until finals week. Well this has held true, I have done absolutely nothing to change my diet and just from not drinking pop alone i've gone from a 38 waste to a 34 ( don't know how much weight i lost because I never took my weight in the first place) I'm 6'2" two hundred and something odd pounds. The sad thing is I look exactly the same to me, not a change, but everybody comments on how i'm looking thinner. And all my pants are waaay too damn big now too. Finals week is coming up quick and my roomate and I are talking about binging, but i've been off so long and it's so easy for me to not drink dr. pepper anymore i'm seriously debating on whether going back on at all.

I've lost 35 pounds over the past 2 months. I still have a ways to go but at least I'm kicking ass in the meantime. I wrote this in another thread so here is a copy/paste job....

Over the past month and a half I have lost about 25 pounds (now 35) by simply riding the bike daily at the gym. I also do light workouts with weights and focus more on reps, not weight. I go to the gym about 6 times per week on average and burn about 700 calories on the bike each time (sometimes 500 if I only go for 20 minutes, sometimes 1200 if I stay on for 50 minutes). In addition, I have not had fast food once in the past month and a half (now 2 months). I only drink diet soda, and actually stopped drinking beer for a month (which is amazing by itself - heh). My caloric intake is between 1,000 and 1,500. I have about another 25 lbs to lose and hope to have it done sooner than later.
