wow, just goes to show how smart the people running that award are.. in that case it needs to be changed to "Distinguished Black Student Award."

yah, but then that brings out their true racist motives.

Actually I was born in Kansas. I currently reside in Missouri but spend the majority of my waking hours in Kansas. You could say I'm a Kansas-Missourian American.

In the US it is PC to call them African-Americans
what about in england are the African-English
and so on and so forth for other countries

No. They're African-American everywhere unless they actually live in Africa.

So, a black man is born in England and he is an African-American?

No, Jamaican

I'm glad someone around here has a sense of humor today. Sorry if I'm using this thread to amuse myself.

No problem. Just clean up after yourself.

Why do they call them "black" when most of them are brown?

P.S. Same thing for "white" people. It's all terribly confusing.

Dammit, didn't you people listen to Michael Jackson? It doesn't matter if you're black or white.

It's funny how the school is so strict about the award going to a black person, yet they are too PC to use the word "black". So they call it "African American", and criticize those who suggested that a REAL African get the award.

This country is getting owned by PC loonies.

C'mon. You cleaned up after me the other day.

You left too much behind as I was rubbing your nose in it.

You're offending my Italian-NewYorkian-American-BrownHairian sensibilities :|

But yeah, the ones pushing "African-American" are for the most part whites with a misplaced sense of guilt.

my 12 year old daughter has been getting the idea from somebody/somewhere (TV? school? kids/teachers?) that "black" is somehow derogatory and that African-American is a "better" term

i don't think she is getting that idea from black people though, it is kinda freaking me out
