I've had a few lucid dreams, but I need to really work at not waking up once I realize I'm dreaming. It's too much effort when I'm just trying to got some rest. It is pretty sweet though. Usually I look at a clock on the wall and make the hands go crazy, and then go from there. But they never lasted long for me.

Last dream I had, I met my father who passed away. I knew it was a dream, so I knew I won't see him once I wake up, it was so sad.

I was stressed out as hell that week, and my father just smiled at me, patted my back and said, "Son, it will be ok, everything will be fine." It was so soothing, damn I miss him. :(

I've gotten really skilled at dreams, but whenever I realize that it's a dream, I just try and bang whatever girl is in sight

Sh!t. Can't believe after reading this thread that I had a lucid dream early this morning. I was in my bed, paralyzed, couldn't move or talk and I saw this strange creature sitting at my computer desk, using my PC and had some of my music playing. I couldn't see him, but I could tell something was in the room. After I was struggling a bit to get up, and praying like hell to get up, this fvcking creature gets mad and gets up out of the chair, and approaches my bed and it looks like he is going to stand over me and strangle me or something (his aura was very angry, like I was disturbing him) so I play like i'm dead and breath a little slower. He is definately close by me, and then something popped in my head. I may have remembered this thread and I remembered saying "This isn't real.", and I instantly woke up out of the dream. That was ****** creepy as hell. It actually worked, a real breakthrough for me.

In any case, thanks to the poster that gave the advice to think that it wasn't real as this has been the kind of dream that has haunted me since I was a small kid. I hope to be able to use this in the future because this always happens to me. I wish I could control it to the point where I can tell myself to open my eyes to see what kind of creatures are in my room taunting me. Or to finally be able to escape the paralysis that I feel everytime this happens.

Just wanted to share this.

That's actually sleep paralysis. Much much different than a lucid dream.

I used to be able to control my dreams when I was growing up, but once I started college I lost the ability. Now every once in a great while I'll have a good dream that I know is a dream, and when they start to get too freaky I just say, 'this is a dream' and then I wake up.

Dude, lay off the drugs.
You don't need drugs to have lucid dreams. They actually hinder the experience. Weed prevents one from remembering dreams, stimulants keep you up and depressants make you sleep through them.

I don't have dreams and never smoked anything before (not a drinker either). So explain why that is?

I lucid dream often. Sometimes I just jump off of building and whatnot.
Most of the time, I rape stuff in my lucid dreams. It sounds ridiculous, but it's fun. However, you can usually only get a few thrusts in before you wake up. Lucid wet dreams rule.
Also, some drugs help lucid dreams. GHB, GBL, and certain types of sleep aids help (not benzos).

i take OTC sleep aid pills every now and then and it seems like i have more dreams when using them than any other time.

The best indication of lucidity is the sudden change in the way time behaves - in that it becomes dynamic to you.

Check your watch, cover your wrist, think of something else, and check it again.

If your watch shows two very different times, you're currently dreaming.

And you're dreaming that I'm posting this.

You're dreaming right now, go jump off a building.

You have hundreds of dreams every night, you just don't remember them. And that's because you're a sound sleeper and probably wake up between stages 1 and 2 of your sleep cycles. To remember one's dreams one really needs to wake up right after the REM stage(5).

Careful, due to frequent abuse, lucid dreams have become a class 1 felony in many states.

It was so surreal two nights ago, as I said I had horrible sleep so I kept waking up in the middle of my REM stage so I was able to remember my dreams. I would be dreaming and keep trying to find the time only to find I couldn't real a clock because the time would keep shifting or I'd check the time and then look back a moment later only to find it had shifted hours.
I had really never had a crazier night of sleep in my life.

But how did I just suddenly wake up when I mentioned in my mind that it wasn't real? Wouldn't nothing happen if it was just sleep paralysis?

Ah, but did you really wake up though? ;)

I find it amusing how everyone engages in such pedantic things when they have a lucid dream. (Though I suppose it might be the only way some people can get laid.) Your subconscious spawns a universe into existence based on your knowledge - bend it to your will. :p

That's the really crazy thing, In my dreams I knew what was happening during the evening(I knew I kept having dreams, waking up and remembering them) and in my dreams I kept thinking I was actually awake, and then I'd be doing something crazy and think, "hey, this doesn't seem like what I'd do at all," I'd look at a digital clock and it would look like some deranged elf was playing with the LCD display on the inside and I'd realise I was dreaming and suddenly wake up in my room.

Lucid dreams rock, it is so cool realizing you are in one, but you're right, as soon as you realize you in it, you wake up.
