Sh!t. Can't believe after reading this thread that I had a lucid dream early this morning. I was in my bed, paralyzed, couldn't move or talk and I saw this strange creature sitting at my computer desk, using my PC and had some of my music playing. I couldn't see him, but I could tell something was in the room. After I was struggling a bit to get up, and praying like hell to get up, this fvcking creature gets mad and gets up out of the chair, and approaches my bed and it looks like he is going to stand over me and strangle me or something (his aura was very angry, like I was disturbing him) so I play like i'm dead and breath a little slower. He is definately close by me, and then something popped in my head. I may have remembered this thread and I remembered saying "This isn't real.", and I instantly woke up out of the dream. That was ****** creepy as hell. It actually worked, a real breakthrough for me.

In any case, thanks to the poster that gave the advice to think that it wasn't real as this has been the kind of dream that has haunted me since I was a small kid. I hope to be able to use this in the future because this always happens to me. I wish I could control it to the point where I can tell myself to open my eyes to see what kind of creatures are in my room taunting me. Or to finally be able to escape the paralysis that I feel everytime this happens.

Just wanted to share this.
That's actually sleep paralysis. Much much different than a lucid dream.

But how did I just suddenly wake up when I mentioned in my mind that it wasn't real? Wouldn't nothing happen if it was just sleep paralysis?😕
Because sleep paralysis is like a half dream, you're conscious but still paralyzed in REM if that makes sense. Much in the same way like when you realise you're dreaming and wake up, when you realised you were dreaming your mind snapped out of it's REM cycle.

Reality testing is a common method that people use to determine whether or not they are dreaming. It involves performing an action with results that are difficult to re-create in a dream. By practicing these techniques during waking life, one may eventually dream of performing a reality check?which will usually fail?helping the dreamer realize that they are dreaming. Common reality tests include:
