I goofed up and maybe some of you wouldn't understand that I had no choice in the matter. I am trying to support my wife and a kid on my income. I was willing to take those risks in writing checks when I am trying to feed my family

You are getting advice. Sell your computer. Burn candles instead of lightbulbs. Work three jobs. I don't care if you're curing cancer. You are an asshole for knowingly writing bad checks. That's just dishonest and stealing. Why in the hell did you have kids if you can't take care of them?

you created fraud by knowingly bouncing checks.. you pay the consequences.. be it a fine or be it jail time..

no lawyer will be able to successfully defend you knowing you intentionally wrote those checks.

I have been trying to make it up with 160 and 120 hour pay periods

I purchased about 20 domains recently, and was wondering how many ATOTers actually have made money off of selling or auctioning off domains.

Anybody make a living on this?

I understand the market for domain names isn't as good as say 1999-2001 etc but anybody still do it?

2. Stop Buying fvcking domains.

I am suprised at how many perfect people we have on the forum. I wonder what it is like to never have made a mistake like all these people. But alas I am human and humans do make mistakes. I also saw on Oprah, that if someone is down and needs adivce or support, that the best thing to do is kick him while he is down. Well beside all that, best of luck with everything.

You idiot. He wrote a bunch of checks to people, 19 from a sample of say 100 a check. He took goods and services from other people and didn't pay them for it. This is his fault, and he just wants to run away from it like a kid who spilled some juice and doens't wanna get yelled at for staining the carpet.

He isn't even thinking about paying them back and wanting to reduce it or make payments because of financial difficulties, he's just hoping it'll all go away.

I would have come in here with a lot more support if he asked us if we knew if there was a way to make payments or reduce it, but because of his stance, i'm not even going to write any advice.

Seriously though, how are there not bench warrants out on you for each of those checks.

the wife/kid excuse can garner you only so much sympathy. If my son was starving I wouldn't do something that could potentially land me in jail. If I'm in jail then guess what, my son suffers.

So by your logic if my son is starving I can rob a bank and use that as a defense.

Because in most states bad checks under $200 are the lowest level of misdemeanors.

My mom runs a business and she recently decided to not take checks anymore because of jackasses like you. Pay up.

As another Montanan, if you can't support a wife and kid working 80+ hours a week (at a job you can post at from a computer, nonetheless) you're living well beyond your means. If you're living in Missoula/Bozeman, move. The rent I pay in Missoula on a 3 bedroom apartment could make payments on a house in Helena.

Regardless of the fact that the OP sucks at life financially, all of us here has messed up at least once. I understand that it is easier to just talk crap than offer sound advise, but I would hope to think that the maturity level was higher here. Also you calling me an idiot hurt my feelings.

of course everyone makes mistakes, but there are some that NO ONE should make. totally and completely avoidable mistakes are basically unforgivable, since they really arent mistakes. this guy knew what he was doing when he did it. if he came here and said he bounced a few checks and it was an accident, then im sure no one would have come down on him quite as hard. granted, you still have to be pretty stupid to bounce a check now-a-days because online banking is so easy, but bouncing like 15 on purpose and avoiding a collections agency is basically criminal, not accidental.

Lol you do have to be pretty stupid to bounce 15 checks, but I think there are some things that are worse. I always see people on the forums seeking advise and then other forum members tearing them appart. People do stupid things when they are desperate and I say give them some slack. I am not saying that the OP is right, I am just saying none of us here is perfect. (unless jesus, or buddah is posting on anandtech)
