Accept it. If his radar said 53, in all likelihood you were going 53. If you're sure you were going slower, perhaps your speedometer is off.

Ok, right so the cop is always right? I'm sorry but I can tell a difference between crusing around the low 30s and 53mph. Who's to say he didn't clock me as I was exiting town when my speedometer read about 45 and rising? Like I said, there were 2 times I had to stop within town so speeding up to 53 mph with my 112 hp car wouldn't really be smart to do only to stop again a couple of blocks away.

So you want me to decide who has more credence, a law enforcement professional or a guy who complains about a speeding ticket on a tech-related message board? I'm sorry, but I'm going with the officer. Perhaps he did clock you later than you claim he said, but as long as you were still in the 30mph zone it's speeding. Deal with it.

Ok, again I don't really care if you believe me or not. If you really think that cops and people in authority are always right, then you have problems. Since President Bush is the highest ranking person in the US, then no one can question him or his actions? Of course his motives are in the best interest of everyone right?

I'm just saying there are grey areas of speeding. Does seeing the 55mph sign mean it's a 55 zone or do you have to pass the sign in order to go over 30?

I can't wait for karma to come around on some of you.

For those with helpful advice about the online traffic school idea, Thankyou.

You're another case of someone who blows opposing viewpoints out of proportion to justify themself. I didn't say that people in authority are always right, and since you brought it up I disagree with President Bush on most of what he does. It's fine to question authority, in fact it's a very good thing in some cases (Nazi Germany, anyone?).

What I'm saying is that you, someone who complains about a speeding ticket on a message board rather than actually get the information directly from the officer or someone else who could provide it, has less credence than a person who is entrusted to keep people safe.

You have to pass the sign for the speed limit to go in effect.

That is quite ironic. I was heading home from my Ski trip when I got pulled over. The cop says I was going 82 in a 60...well I can't deny it, but I did think that it was a 70mph zone...oh well. All I have to do is complete Defensive Driving and send in this form and proof that I finished and the ticket is gone.

This was my first ticket too.

1.) u can't travel 180 miles to fight it in court.
2.) u can't afford a $95 ticket; therefore u can't afford a $300 ticket

so u can't afford to be there... and at the same time u can't afford to not be there either. dude... we are not miracal workers. you already admitted to speeding (doesn't matter whether u were doing 43 or 53). even if it were only 43... u said u can't go to court right? r u just bitching for the sake of bitching? yes there are a lot of dicks on the forums, but i think a lot of ppl have already gave u some realistic and good advice. also, if u do a search, u will find a plethora of threads about speeding that will have probably everything u need to know. stop complaining, and start figuring out how u r gonna raise some cash for ticket which u r guilty of. yes it sounds harsh, but u will not get off the hook as easily as saying "i'm sorry". whether u can afford it or not... u owe whatever township some cash.

Actually, it does matter what speed I was going because that determines the value of the ticket and the impact on my insurance. ok... for the driving school... someone already said u might be able to do it online. if not... u do not have to go to the town in which u were stopped. u should be able to go to any dmv for that, tho i might be wrong. best thing for u to do is call dmv and ask. as for insurance... if its a 4 point ticket... driving school only takes off 2 points... so u will still have 2 points. plea bargaining in court will take off those two extra points. one thing i am not sure if u r aware of is the surcharges. i gotta pay insurance surcharges of $240 for 3 years becuz of traffic violations. i dunno if this is the case outside of NJ.

whether the cop was lying or not about ur speed... is there anything u can do about it? to my knowledge, u could try to ask the cop provide documents his radar was calibrated correctly. i've only read about this method, and have not done this myself. however, when i did get a speeding ticket before and got a lawyer... the layer told me that she would do that (she said it was a procedure called "discovery"). other than this, i don't really see what u can do about the ticket now, since it's already been issued. if u decide to go to court, u suppose to can just tell the prosecutor and the issuing police officer to their faces that the cop is a liar. but who do u think the prosecutor will believe... his buddy cop or u?

just deal with the facts, and zero in on what u can do. can u fight it in court? if yes, then do it. there is a chance that u could have all 4 points wiped off, if u can sweet talk the prosecutor with the "it's my first ticket" sob story. if u can't go to court... just pay the fine, go to driving school, and eat the 2 points. perhaps call around to different insurance companies to see if they can offer u better rates.

Have you ever considered how sad your life is if you really get off on putting people down and posting lame pictures/comments?

You really should reconsider what direction your sad little life is taking. I guess I understand where you're coming from after seeing a picture of you. Sad really.

Personal attack plus attempted topic switch ... that's five each, plus the two-point combo bonus for your lame rebuttal. Looks like I'm off to an early lead here. Sadly, I should sadly consider how sad I am right now with my sad life and sad direction. Really sad.

Well,it doesn't matter as the court thing is out of the question since it's way to far. If it was a ticket in Chicago, I would have went to court but oh well. How much will a 4pt ticket have an impact on my record anyways?

i can't give u an exact number, but i would say that 4 points = a sizable increase in premium. just did a quick google search and came up with this (see chart near bottom)... perhaps that will give u an idea

So how long will this be on the record? I'm back in school now so I probably won't be driving much anyways. That site seems to be maintained by a law firm dealing with traffic violations so they'd want to scare people into fighting the ticket with their service.

Right, because you know everything there is to know about someone just from reading their posts at an online forum. Yes, I hate the world and all its inhabitants, everyone on AT should just die because I hate them all.

Boy, you're a regular Sherlock Holmes. I bet the local PD is all over you for the detective position.

Again - where in the initial sarcasm and levity-laden comment was there an attack against you? And I better find some way to entertain myself in this thread, because you're doing a pretty piss-poor job. :p Go turn up your Linkin Park CD and vent your angst at someone who cares - the wall of your parent's basement.

i don't know about illinois, but here's some info from michigan. i would not doubt the lawfirms website probably has inflated premiums listed. but lets say they were off by a 20% margin... is that still not a sizable increase?

Yeah. In any case, I'll be canceling insurance as I'm headed back to school and won't need to drive. It'll suck when I start it up again. Those increases were huge especially for a college student.

Hey, I'm 18 and I lost my license for having an accident, and 13 days later someone hits me in the rear end (i was in the same car). I can't get my license back until October, and I'm living on my own and in college... Fun! Thankfully I was able to cover all expenses ($8450 / semester) with scholarships.

So, I've now got four cars and can't drive one of them. That feels bad.

That really sucks. Why was your license taken away when it's not even your fault the second time?

My expenses are covered by working and the partial scholarship I received. Books this semester gonna total over $300 alone.

Actually, it'd be best if you don't post in threads you can't contribute to. I guess being a jerk on an online forum's better than being a jerk in real life. Well, in your case you're probably a jerk in real life too.

wait... 23mph over is actually a 6 point ticket ain't it? oh good god. if i were u, i would make EVERY effort to go to court. i been on google reading stuff about insurance... some sites say going to driving school could take off 4 points. so if u go to court... they will at least take two points off. that is... assuming u were not being a dick to the cop (if u were... and the cop remember u in court... he can tell the prosecutor NOT to give u a plea bargain). if u r able to sweet talk the prosecutor into taking more then two points off... that would be great... driving school should def get rid of the remaining 2 points. u still gonna be stuck with whatever fines for the ticket... and whatever surcharges from dmv tho.
