I was given someones resume to look over, so I could give my opinion on it. I noticed this person graduated college in 1982 and said "You serious this person is old an ancient, look at when they graduated. Their mind is probably old and feeble now. We can't hire them." Well someone overheard me, and complained that I was making inappropriate comments while reviewing someones resume. Bastard can't take a joke.

The person have any jobs before that? I'm sure he or she wasn't unemployed all these years.

6 figure lawsuits for age discrimination tend to put people in a bad mood.

For some strange reason ICRS, this thread sounds familiar!

Let's see...he graduated in 1982. So he'd be...roughly, 44-45.

Yup, right around the Age Discrimination age.

OP- you deserved to get into trouble. Age is a protected class. Better to get your hand slapped now then be responsible for getting your company into a lawsuit.

Wait till you're 40, married, got a couple of kids, mortgage and bills to pay and suddenly get layoff. Then some asshole looks at your resume and comments about how you're old and useless. Karma is a bitch. Enjoy.

Some people apparently don't have to wait to become useless, they start at an early age.

Problem is OP it isn't funny. If it had been genuinely funny you might have gotten off the hook but you ended up being the victim of the real life oldmoboat's law.

Age discrimination is probably why they griped. Honestly though, it's one of those things that they prefer to use plausable deniability when possible. (it's better not to know you ever said anything in case they're ever questioned about your comment) That ultimately protects the interests of the company...

Other than that, age discrimination is virtually impossible to prove and rarely brought to court. Feel free to make jokes...just do them around people who will appreciate the joke. HR minded people take that stuff seriously because there really aren't that many guidelines to follow other than Title VII.

Word.

Some people at your work obviously don't have a sense of humor, and in this case it seems you are one of them.

One of our guys at work hid in the gun/taser cabinet and waited for another officer to get his taser. When the guy opened the door, he jumped out and scared the piss outta the guy. He got 3 days off for that. :(

OP fails. Please try again. On second thought, my old feeble mind thinks you should quit while you are ahead.
