6 figure lawsuits for age discrimination tend to put people in a bad mood.

Let's see...he graduated in 1982. So he'd be...roughly, 44-45.

Yup, right around the Age Discrimination age.

OP- you deserved to get into trouble. Age is a protected class. Better to get your hand slapped now then be responsible for getting your company into a lawsuit.

i graduated high school in '83 and i'm 43 yrs of age, so i would put this guy the op is talking about closer to 46 / 47 unless op was referring to a 2 yr degree.

Yes, as they don't have the benefit of the OP's high levels of smartness. ;)

you aren't even allowed to ask in the interview.
so its not good for an employee to act blase about the age thing. coud possibly get your company in trouble.

It's a sad litigious society that we live in, some old fart could sue

off color joke that shouldn't be told in a prude workplace, but wtf?

Also the taser incident was funny, but cops seldom if ever have any humor

I guess I'm the only one that will comment that I don't see it as that big of a deal? It's one thing to joke about it while looking at the resumes, but if he looked at it, said it and threw it away that would be different. People need to become more laid back, I would want to be able to joke about something and not worry about having my life threatened by it.

It's a joke, it didn't go anywhere so whats the big deal.

Monday, go up to your boss and tell him you want to do his wife in the butt. Then tell him you are joking.
Report back.

Didnt go anywhere? It shows the OP has a bias against people based on their age.

Now if the applicant has a friend at the OPs place of employment who overheard the statement...OP gets canned and company gets sued.

haha <sarcasm>

With pictures if he lets you do it!

If they don't hire the guy, and somehow he finds out the OP made those comments...he's almost guaranteed to win an age-discrimination lawsuit unless there's some other OBVIOUS reason for not hiring him. If he has the necessary qualifications for the job, but someone younger gets it instead...

I think it would be closer to 47-48*.

* If we assume they were 21-22 when they graduated.

And thats what so f-ed up about it. I should be able to joke around, every time there is a joke it's discriminating no matter what the joke is about. But now we have sue happy stupid fuckers, like the stand up comedianright now that people are trying to get fired for the jokes. Fucking stupid.

Sorry can't ask my boss about his wife because he is out of town for a few weeks. I also see that as taken way out of perception.

Well, some old fart could sue because age is a protected class (I believe it's 45+ but I could be wrong).

Maybe it's wrong for is to have age be a protected class, but until it changes, we really have to be on our toes with our comments.
